Bony and or Gomis 03:30 - Jul 31 with 3517 views | Wanderer | First one up Man U, is Gary going to go with Bony or Gomis starting and swap second half? or both together? away at old trafford i believe we need to stop first then attack, friendlies are one thing but i think Wilf first then Gomis to sub later on, do the tried and tested first methinks. Thoughts.....
Bony and or Gomis on 03:47 - Jul 31 with 2428 views | phact0rri | Manure are a front facing attack squad. we really need to go light on the forward and heavy on the defense and relaying midfield. We need to think about having mobile forwards who can take advantage of the space at the wings if Van Gaal is going to be imploying the NL style of football systems IMHO. Counter attack should be key in that opening match.

Bony and or Gomis on 04:01 - Jul 31 with 2413 views | JBT95 | Go there to attack, outplay the Mancs and win the game. OT will be nervous as. If Van Gaal falls on his arse they will have no clue what to do. This has got to be third time lucky with them in a big game in their history. Fergie's last home game we should have at least draw maybe even won. Moyes' 4-1 at the Liberty flattered them. C'mon let's be top of the league come 14:50 on the 16th! [Post edited 31 Jul 2014 4:03]

I agree. It's like a Cup Final for us. They have everything to lose, we have nothing. They are expected to win and will be nervous as hell, we are not expected to win so should go and enjoy the game, and spring a surprise result as we did in the FA Cup match in January. Go with both Wilf & Gomis up front
Bony and or Gomis on 08:55 - Jul 31 with 2158 views | monmouth | We tried to be cagey last year and look what happened. Nothing to lose here.Have a shot at them. They really will sh#t themselves if things go against them on their big show off occasion.

Bony and or Gomis on 09:03 - Jul 31 with 2128 views | icecoldjack | We have nesten them at old trafford so that shouldn't ne a problem for the players. This game Will be won or lost ny how monk and van gaal approace it. If gary and the boys put in a good performance id be happy regardless of the result, if we do well it Will set the standard for us and be a massive boost for monk tactically. Je Will start with bony IMO i fancy us to go There and play well and perform any kind of result Will be bonus for me. Quietly confident though .

Exactly. They sorted Canas out in the first five minutes and it was over. Send on Wilf on Bafi to rough them up in the first ten minutes, give them something to think about. Then we win the right to play.

Bony and or Gomis on 09:52 - Jul 31 with 2002 views | ItchySphincter | Got to have a go at them though. For many years teams have gone there not expecting to win and it's played in to their hands. Whatever the result we have to go there to compete. Going there hoping for a narrow defeat is the wrong approach imo.

So is all out attack with 2 up front... There's a big difference between having a go and committing suicide, especially as it looks like we're going into this game without a defensive midfielder.
Bony and or Gomis on 10:05 - Jul 31 with 1961 views | perchrockjack | I can see Warwixck s point and frankly Im getting a little concerned myself as we really do need a tighter defence mainly as it seems Chico is staying which I find staggering. That said, we could really be the team to watch and hopefully for the right reasons. Im hoping GM has a plan

Agreed. Surely our best chance of winning the game is to be solid in defense early, the longer United don't score, the more frustrated they and their fans will become. We should certainly go there looking for a positive result, but thinking we can 'turn them over' is the kind of thinking that leads to 4-1 defeats.

Bony and or Gomis on 10:22 - Jul 31 with 1914 views | Catullus | I dont think we can play our usual formation for this. I think we need to go 442 and look to counter attack. Hopefully frustrating them but having some chances ouselves. Two up front to stop them playing it out from the back. And I'd start with Routs and Montero wide, Shelvey and Ki in the middle. Later on, if things are going well we can switch over, put Siggy and Dyer on to test their stamina. It'll be interesting to see what Monk does. But Van Gaal has been using wingbacks in a 352 on tour. I reckon two strikers could cause problems, but one may be playing into their hands.

Bony and or Gomis on 10:22 - Jul 31 with 1914 views | C_jack | It's probably better to play smart, rather than bold. We should be able to defend well, while posing an attacking threat. The two are not mutually exclusive Of course the likes of Dai 'no clue' Lew will be expecting a 6-0 attacking masterclass. [Post edited 31 Jul 2014 10:29]

Yes, we need to have caution and ambition in sensible quantities but do you think playing Bony and Gomis would be suicide? If it was Bony and Michu I suspect you would be more satisfied. It's not a leading question btw. We're not going to go in to this game without someone in DM either, that really would be suicide.

"dailew" leads a rich and fulfilling life, he probably gets a little hard-on every time he hits the down arrow button. HIs mam will be back from the shops any minute to make him a nice cup of tea. He may even get a biscuit if he hasn't soiled himself.

There's a difference between a specialist defensive midfielder and someone playing in that position. Ki or Shelvey? Please, don't make me laugh. Haven't seen much of Gomis - he may play wide, I wouldn't want two up top starting at OT that's for sure.

Hope you're right but I can't see it somehow. Can't pass water but a good destructive DM who'd let Yernahtid's forwards know they were in a game - I think he's played his last game for us though. I don't think he's trained with us or been in the squad for the friendlies. Cutting off our nose to spite our face?

Van Persie is almost nailed on for the Captaincy and he'll be on fire, I very much doubt that he'll be sulking or injured much this season either, counter attacking will be the best option obviously, but our midfield need to be solid, just hope that we either get a strong CDM [still suprised that we still haven't done this tbh] in or that Ki can stepup, I don't think we'll see much if anything of Canas in a Swans shirt again.

Not sure but that sums up Canas perfectly. He can do the ball winning part but then he likes to give it straight back to them. Shame.

Re DM, interesting piece of info just came my way - I'm working in Scotland and a young Celtic fan just asked me how Kyle Bartley was getting on. He said that when he was at Rangers they played him at fullback where he didn't look comfortable but on a few occasions they played him in DM protecting the back four and apparently he did very well. I was surprised as Bartley looks a bit rangey for that but the lad reckons he was excellent there.

I'd rather play Chico at dm. Any mistakes or rushes of blood may not be so costly.
