Manure are a front facing attack squad. we really need to go light on the forward and heavy on the defense and relaying midfield. We need to think about having mobile forwards who can take advantage of the space at the wings if Van Gaal is going to be imploying the NL style of football systems IMHO.

I agree. It's like a Cup Final for us. They have everything to lose, we have nothing. They are expected to win and will be nervous as hell, we are not expected to win so should go and enjoy the game, and spring a surprise result as we did in the FA Cup match in January.

Agreed. Surely our best chance of winning the game is to be solid in defense early, the longer United don't score, the more frustrated they and their fans will become.
We should certainly go there looking for a positive result, but thinking we can 'turn them over' is the kind of thinking that leads to 4-1 defeats. |  |

I dont think we can play our usual formation for this. I think we need to go 442 and look to counter attack. Hopefully frustrating them but having some chances ouselves. Two up front to stop them playing it out from the back.
And I'd start with Routs and Montero wide, Shelvey and Ki in the middle. Later on, if things are going well we can switch over, put Siggy and Dyer on to test their stamina.
It'll be interesting to see what Monk does. But Van Gaal has been using wingbacks in a 352 on tour.
I reckon two strikers could cause problems, but one may be playing into their hands. | |

Yes, we need to have caution and ambition in sensible quantities but do you think playing Bony and Gomis would be suicide? If it was Bony and Michu I suspect you would be more satisfied. It's not a leading question btw.

Hope you're right but I can't see it somehow. Can't pass water but a good destructive DM who'd let Yernahtid's forwards know they were in a game - I think he's played his last game for us though. I don't think he's trained with us or been in the squad for the friendlies.

Van Persie is almost nailed on for the Captaincy and he'll be on fire, I very much doubt that he'll be sulking or injured much this season either, counter attacking will be the best option obviously, but our midfield need to be solid, just hope that we either get a strong CDM [still suprised that we still haven't done this tbh] in or that Ki can stepup, I don't think we'll see much if anything of Canas in a Swans shirt again. |  |

Re DM, interesting piece of info just came my way - I'm working in Scotland and a young Celtic fan just asked me how Kyle Bartley was getting on. He said that when he was at Rangers they played him at fullback where he didn't look comfortable but on a few occasions they played him in DM protecting the back four and apparently he did very well. I was surprised as Bartley looks a bit rangey for that but the lad reckons he was excellent there. | |
