3 games played
Won 3 Drawn 0 Lost 0 For 4 Against 1

Pretty impressive stats, pretty impressive start.

But why doesn't it feel as good as it should?!

I don't want to start a negative thread here because the season is well and truly up and running and we've got a massive chance next Saturday of already stabbing through a big marker in the ground to be in this division next season - the main objective!!

Lots of positives tonight also; youngsters did themselves proud, Carroll looked classy, full backs solid and comfortable on the ball keeping possession, Jazz' best game in a Swans shirt in my opinion and a very classy acquisition in Fede MkII. Gomis also looks a solid buy and in fairness for a big lump has a real good touch and just seems to have that ability to drag the ball away from defenders and keep hold of the ball. In some ways it's a pity Bony is here at the same time as this boy would be our first and only starter - but that's one of those "nice" problems isn't it. Well I hope so.

I'm also happy with our wide men. Routs and Dyer are dyed in the wool Jacks by now and we know exactly what we're going to get; ok they won't always get everything right, but that's just the way it is, typically with a Swans player, but they're absolutely too class for us. Montero has come in and looks a live wire; he does seem to be the type of player that will do as much right as he will get wrong but when you think about our out and out chances tonight he was behind a big percentage of them.

I am a little worried however about the amount of zip and chances we create now. That to me, at this moment in time, is the clear difference between a Laudrup team and a Monk team. We need to create more "zip" in the middle of the park and get the ball in and around the box quicker feeding both our wingers a lot more than we are at the moment.

I am a little concerned with our middle of the park. I really don't want to see any more of Shelvey's Hollywood passes, at least not on such regularity. He needs to mix up his game a lot more and look for more zip, more one-twos and get a lot more energy about us in centre midfield. Ki can be fairly static too and to a lesser degree so is Siggy. I really thought Siggy would look a different class tonight for half hour but he just didn't.

I will look back at the best one half performance I've ever seen from the Swans and that was the absolute demolition of West Brom at home two seasons ago. We could do with having a little look at the style of play and tactics used in that game and look to employ that again, especially at home. We need more pace in the middle, we need more energy and as I keep saying "zip", something's not right with us in this department and if we don't get it right it could have a knock on effect for the next few months.

Onwards and Upwards.

I'm up against it now... the newport dribble's chipping in.

How come I've got every sadc*nt on PS following me around.

Form an orderly queue - One flew over the facking cuckoo clock too many.

They're not following you around, T2C. You posted a load of sh*t on a football forum and you're being challenged.

Anybody got any views on JDG's use of the word Premiership??

It was a good OP. Unfortunately, that doesn't suit the agenda of those that just want to play the man, not the ball. The post was largely positive, but identified a couple of key areas where the team is still not clearly functioning effectively.

'Zip' is a tremendous word to describe it. The results in the league have obviously been fantastic but the 'performance' has in places been below the level we know we can achieve when everything is working. I didn't see Rotherham.

However, the league games have seen more misplaced passes (looking at you, JJS), a general concession of possession (especially 2nd half versus Burnley), some ponderous approach play, and sloppy mistakes putting additional pressure on the back 4.

It's not the way that a Swansea team at the top of it's game performs. But we still got 6 points from it, so imagine what we could do if we were on song!

The plus for me has been the defence. We have looked solid, particularly from set pieces. A big part of that is down to Fab, who is much more commanding of his area. He has snuffed out danger on more than one occassion and made some smart saves. Ash and Amat have paired up well, and all the back 4 have got confidence from having Fab between the posts.

I think GM also gets enormous credit - he's clearly been drilling defence in pre-season such that we look more solid, particularly at set pieces. He has been early and smart in his substitutions (eg Tiendalli for Taylor at OT) when things were malfunctioning. Credit where its due.

Bony has been solid if unspectacular (so far).

As T2C said, it's the midfield that's not quite working - and when that happens we lose our 'zip'. Siggy has been an awesome addition, the wingers are steady (Routledge better than Dyer, and Jeff a great option from the bench). If we could sort out the DM role and cut out the sloppiness then that zip will come back.

Our record is pretty good against the baggies. Hopefully we'll hit third gear on saturday and that should be good enough for 9 points on the board.

Garry Monk said it in an interview.. I'm concerned if he's the right man for the job after that.. Burnley interview I think.

The awkward moment when a Welsh Club become the Champions of England.. shh The Swansea Way.. To upset the odds.

Now that's a superb post and if it makes everyone feel better please substitute that one for my OP.

Although the repetitive references to being particularly good at set pieces. Isn't that a Plutoism or whatever it was ; -)

Great post and cheers!!

While the thread title is (probably deliberately) a bit provocative, that's a very reasonable OP from T2C. It's good to see him moderating his opinion on footballing matters somewhat in the wake of some very positive results so far this season. Absolutely no doubt that we're not the finished article yet, no team is after three games. There are things that need work and I've no doubt that work is ongoing.

I just hope now that we can put the nit picking behind us and stop looking for every excuse to have a dig at Monk. Some of it has been painful to watch it's been no desperate to find something to comment negatively on (I'm not necessarily referring to T2C here).

And as we're in the business of disclaimers on this thread, I'll add one. I have no "personal agenda" against anyone on here, least of all T2C who I've met many times and is a thoroughly nice man.

I initially read that as "reprogramme the large hard on".

Which was disturbing.
