Huge victory for the Yes campaign, roundabout 45% of the vote, battled against the Beeb, the newspapers, the 3 major Westminster parties and the capitalist bosses threats, what an amazing result for 'Yes'.
The next one is a shoo-in for 'Yes', continued Tory/NuLabour rule from Westminster and the demographics seemed to show the young voted for 'Yes' [up 40 years of age], the old voted for the status quo and they will be dead in the coming years.
Amazing result for 'Yes' against the odds.

Huge victory for Salmond, Salmond didn't want independence he wanted more powers, his lot was on 25% or so in the polls a short time ago, they wanted 'devo max' on the ballot paper as they thought they had no chance of getting independence, Cameron knowing the Scots would vote for 'devo max' by a landslide said no, its independence or we stay as we are, thinking independence would have no chance, Salmond showed big at that point thinking at least 'us' wanting more power will be highlighted and on the agenda.
Then with a week to go it was so close in the polls that both Salmond and Cameron were both in shock and both in the same place thinking what do we do if they vote 'Yes' ?, they both sh*t themselves, Salmond had nothing in place for an independent Scotland and Cameron had nothing in place for a UK minus Scotland.
The vote did go 'No' [this time] as I said it would over and over, but Salmond got a huge 45% of the vote, I didn't think he would get nowhere near that much when they originally said there was going to be a vote, the British state sh*t themselves in the last week or so and started making promises to the Scots to make sure they did vote 'No'.
Salmond has got what he wanted, Salmond has won the game hands down, it is an amazing victory for him and his supporters.
Gold.
Solid. F*cking. Gold.

Some 'no' voters bribed [don't vote 'Yes' we will give you 'devo max'] and some 'no' voters swindled [voted for status quo but getting 'devo max' when 'no' topped the poll].
Oh dear.
The bribed 'No's' are seemingly going to get what they want, but the genuine 'No's' have been swindled, they have been done, they voted for the status quo and came out top of the poll but are going to get 'devo max'.
Oh dear.

On a serious note, Cameron has been given a lifeline. If he reneges on his promises I wouldn't blame them at all if they voted yes next time. Don't be silly Dave. Sort this devolution thing out for us all, and that includes England. A federal state, here we come (I hope). That should ensure there won't be a next time.

It's why we keep coming back.
This boy's like a snorkel jacket wearing twin to that other adolescent nutter from Mumbles who used to come on here singing the praises of Stalin. Remember him, Warwick? He'd have made Dave Spart blush. I miss him.

The media and big business scare tactics have worked on the Scots. What we have seen is Corporate democracy at work. Welcome to the real new world order

This OP stands out for me as one of the Greats ever on here.
The Scots were saved from disaster by the more mature and realistic inhabitants of that country. Pied Piper Salmond did his best to stack the odds - allowing 16 yr olds to vote, restricting the vote to people residing in Scotland only - and still he failed. There won't be a repeat. This sort of decision should be and will be in future, a UK wide vote.
Narrow nationalism should be saved for the 6 Nations. These islands are too small to be bothered about regional differences. I am Welsh yes, but I am also British and proud of it.
Well done Scotland. I knew you'd display common sense when push came to shove.

Just over a third of the total eligible electorate voted for Independence. I'm amazed they didn't carry Salmond out of there shoulder high.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Apparently the 'Yes' parties memberships have gone through the roof since Thursday, SNP up 5,000, the Greens up a 1,000 and the Scottish Socialist party up 800.
I haven't seen any figures for the right wing 'No' parties.

I can see Trampie's point, although he's overstated it hugely. Support for independence was at about 30% when the referendum was announced. To get so close was something of an achievement for Salmond. The electorate was also hugely engaged in the debate. An 84% turnout is amazing, other elections can only dream of such interest.
So not a "stunning victory" by any means but Salmond deserves credit.
