Opposition tactical changes 13:07 - Oct 21 with 1806 viewsdobjack2

The opposition made a tactical change and we appeared powerless and clueless about countering it. Not for the first time. That is far more worrying to me than Gary's choice of words and whether Moses dived or not.

It's been happening since he took charge.

It was a bit of a joke last season with people often saying 'Don't let Garry go in at halftime' but now it's a serious concern.

For whatever reason, we just don't seem capable of performing for 90 minutes at the moment? Fitness, tactics, motivation at half time?

Either way, it is a concern. That 2nd half against Stoke was disappointing, as was Newcastle, Burnley etc... There's a pattern.

Worryingly it didn't appear to be a tactical master stroke and made our attacking play impotent in a live TV game. We need to be able to adapt our plan A or it could become a very tricky season.

I just love clueless negative posts like this one.
All criticism and no substance.
So come all you pundits, what changes would you have made that would have given us the win?

Jeff should have started in place of the invincible Dyer. Other changes made could have included the likes of a player who can score a goal which should have been a straight swap in the 50th minute of Gylfi for Emnes and then utilise the partnership of Bony and Emnes along with the pace and trickery of Jeff and Wayne.

Stoke took control of the midfield and we did'ent have the tools/insight to retake it.

Wayne was absent for most of the game, or didn't you notice?
Bony was on a Yellow and couldn't go for any 50/50 balls because he was too tired.
Jeff came on and made a difference but then the mid field stopped giving him the ball and gave it to Wayne who did nothing with it.
I agree about Emnes for Gylfi who was also not firing on all cylinders.
But none of that would have stopped their second goal or controlled the mid field would it?

it wouldn't have stopped it but it certainly could have given us a much better chance of getting an equaliser but then again we didn't take our two chances at the start that would obviously made all the difference.

Neither clueless nor negative but an observation. I don't profess to be a football tactical genius but then I don't need to be in my day job, and, even if I was, it isn't up to me to counter opposition managers tactics. Would you disagree that we outplay many teams in the first half of games, they then change tactics to counter our dominance and we seem unable to do anything about it.

They didn't "change" their tactics, they increase their tempo using the same tactics, we loose shape and our normal ball control and just kick the ball up field allowing them to attack again.
Loss of mid field control is our problem.
After the subs we actually looked a lot more like scoring in the last 10 minutes than they did.

Lets not get pedantic, they made a substitution and tweaked their way of playing: We couldn't adapt to this. We can call these changes whatever we like but our inability to deal with them is the issue. Other teams have also made changes at half time that we have not been able to deal with and that worries me. I always felt that laudrup was better at spotting weaknesses in the opposition and tweaking our game plan to exploit them in the second half.

We lost the midfield battle again. What central midfielders did we have on the bench?

We are probably a midfielder light in the squad. Its a shame JDG is not still here as him and Gylfi with their intricate play around the edge of the box would have been very good together.

We start booting it away as well when under pressure. If the ball isnt sticking to Wilf, it just comes back. More pressure.

"Michu, Britton and Williams could have won 3-0 on their own. They wouldn't have required a keeper."
