It's not just about who scores more. If you take into account direct assists then Messi has only created a couple less goals (and that's relying on lesser players than themselves to finish those chances they probably miss a lot and that means he made plenty of key passes that would have been goals if he was passing to himself). Just because Messi hasn't scored as many as Ronaldo for the short while the season has been back on doesn't mean he's not as good a player.
Messi scores more unassisted goals than anyone. He attempts and succeeds more dribbles than anyone. He plays and succeeds with a higher percentage of through balls than Ronaldo etc. |  |
