Rate your Swansea managers... 12:08 - Oct 31 with 3799 viewsStarsky

Your mission...
Rate them from 1 to 10.
What you must take into consideration:
1: they must be rated as what impact they've had with our club, astute signings etc... NOT who you like the best.
2: you can take their Swans playing days into your decision as well as their managerial efforts.

Garry Monk
Michael Laudrup
Brendan Rodgers
Paulo Sousa
Roberto Martinez
Kenny Jackett
Brian Flynn
John Toshack
Harry Griffiths
Frankie Burrows

Off you go.

Guys, I also left out billy Lucas & Roy Bentley.

Deal with it!

Ok Starsk,

1. John Toshack
2. Roberto Martinez
3. Brendan Rodgers

4. Frankie Burrows
5. Brian Flynn

6. Michael Laudrup

7. Garry Monk

I struggle to put Paulo Sousa and Kenny Jackett in there, because I didn't enjoy watching us under them. John Hollins, gets no mention at all, yet was no worse and got us promoted.

See you at Everton,

Enjoy!

TNT... Thanks for response but you can't list Laudrup that low, lol.

Tosh showed us what could be achieved - amazing journey. Roberto gave us a blue print for modern stylish football that has served us so well. Flynn brought in Lee Trundle - and on that basis alone is our greatest and shortest manager. Harry Griffiths and mad Frankie - legends both.

Beware of the Risen People

Here's mine:

1: Rogers
1: martinez
3: Toshack
4: Laudrup
5: Monk
5: Griffiths
5: Jackett
5: Flynn
9: Burrows
10: Sousa

I expect Monk to rise to joint first eventually.

Any sentence incorporating the name Appleton shall instantly turn this thread on its head, thus becoming a list of worst managers. Surely he and Cullis would appear in everybody's top two?

I'm still working on the original post, Starsk. Lots of rubbing out / pencil arrows / pros & cons etc. If I crack it, I'll post it! Now, Harry Griffiths was my first manager see, but ...
...oh, there I go again!

Appleton wouldn't be anywhere near my top two worst managers.

In no particular order, but all of the following were worse (as managers) IMO : -

1) Kevin Cullis
2) Terry Yorath
3) Mickey Adams
4) Nick Cusack
5) Roy Bentley
6) Les Chappell
7) Alan Cork
8) Kevin Nugent
9) Alan Curtis
10) Doug Livermore
11) Jimmy Rimmer

....and that's only the ones since I started watching The Swana in 1970

Terry Yorath and Roy Bentley both achieved promotion managing the Swans, yet John Bond and Harry Gregg get off Scott free. You haven't thought this through.

I certainly have thought it through.

I have a personal hatred of Terry Yorath, never having forgiven him for missing the penalty against Yugoslavia in 1976. He was captain and decided that he should go for glory and take a penalty when Tosh was the far better option. I will admit to be irrational but have spent years and years thinking through about his inclusion on this list.

Harry Gregg did more with a poor squad than Bentley and if you look at development of young players, he was streets ahead. John Bond was a fantastic manager, proven long before he arrived at The Vetch. The circumstances under which he had to manage us at that time, with bankruptcy on the horizon were impossible. You cannot blame any manager for that. Even Clough or Shankly or Mourinho would have struggled.

He cost us a fortune by giving Saunders away

Who the fukc are the swana?

... and by the way, we went 36 away games without an away win under Colin Appleton, so don't big him up.

Great day / point at Everton today btw.

Poll: Would you make goalposts bigger?
