A couple of observations from our City Centre today. 17:31 - Nov 17 with 5862 viewslifelong

1. Saw a woman being booked, by a Council Warden, in St Mary's Square, for throwing down a cigarette end. £50 fine (apparently).

2. The German sausages in the stall in Oxford Street are a bit overpriced but delicious.

Who is it who says you can just walk away from the officers?

Has anyone had a fine from those monkeys and argued the toss with them?

They can't detain you so if you walk on they would have to submit their evidence and issue the fine through the magistrates court. I wonder if they do actually go through the arse ache of it...

I'm still waiting for my train fine to appear from the Malmo away game

How on earth would that even be enforced? Officers running after cars?

Is that a serious question ? I hope not because surely you can't be that thick. Cars do have number plates and every car that enters the city centre will be on cctv and it wouldn't be to hard to capture evidence from that cctv and through the number plate find out who was driving, a bit like speed cameras catch you if you speed and they don't run after you.

People who throw litter on to the floor should be fined there is no excuse just lazynes and if there were no wardens the irresponsible knobheads would continue to litter.

Speed cameras and cctv cameras are not the same. A cctv camera will not be looking at a cars number plate

"Wilson must pay a fine of £200, costs of £235.66 and a victim surcharge of £20 in respect of two offences under Sections 87 and 88B of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

He breached those sections by dropping his cigarette on the floor and then by failing to provide his details when he was asked to do so by the authorised officer."

The article expressly mentions that failing to proved details breaches either Section 87 or S88B of the environmental protection act 1990. That's an offence.

The magistrate was wrong. These so called enforcement officers are just private contractors working for the council. They have no authority to take your details. They can ask, but just walk away and not a thing they can do about it

It wouldn't take much for them to spot a number plate, believe me especially if they thought a crime was committed or they thought they could make money out of it.

The amount of crime cctv cameras detect is negligible. Every report including govt ones have shown cctv cameras do nothing to reduce crime

CCTV is an interesting topic. In so much as recording crime it is great once this has been achieved. It can't be intimidated, forget or lie as a witness.

A mate of mine was decked by a local bully/small-time gangster type and in no way would he have pressed charges fearing for the safety of his family/not worth the hassle etc but this was caught on CCTV and the perpetrator was done for it which the bloke would have got away with otherwise (wasn't serious btw).

But to have all these cameras but a weak and disgracefully lenient justice system is a truly bizarre combination.

The orthodox are always orthodox, regardless of the orthodoxy.

It has no use in shops against shoplifters, because the cameras are inside and no offence takes place until the item has been taken outside the premises

So they'd have to be combined with ones outside as well?

Still worth it for armed robberies I'd imagine. Who'd run a shop?

Nonsense. They deter crime for a start.
