Jo Brand came to our college when she was just starting out and was called something like the Sea Monster!
She was brilliant. The only issue with her is that the jokes she does now, some 27 years later are very similar. She hasn't really ever moved away from the 'overweight' and 'hates blokes' type stuff.
She did a cracking joke that I remember to this day about being cast as Bethlehem in the school nativity play (and a long story about being mistaken for Greater Manchester). After 20 odd years though I guess it pales a little!
Remember her being incredibly quick with hecklers as well - a very very funny comedian albeit a bit too lazy about coming up with new stuff to be truly great. |
