When does something get deemed racist? Is it merely mentioning race or colour or has it got to have a derogatory edge?
I read a joke where a young Muslim lad looses his mum in a shopping centre, the staff try to help and ask, what does your mum look like? The young lad says I don't know.

Not particularly Jackfath.. I have more of an improving attitude.. it all boils down to the 11-15 period.. it's this period that's the most vital period of life.. I'm not feeling sorry.. or whining.. I'm questioning why I'm a better teacher of myself than actual teachers.. speaks volumes. | |

I fed up of the whole debate. I don't disagree that racism happens, of course it does. But in far too many cases racism is used as leverage for something else. Be it to get a job (or compensation) or to settle a grudge.
Genuine racism needs rooting out and punishing, and educating our kids should be enough to gradually bring it to it's deserved end.
Until then, some people need to get a sense of humour. Others need to see past their own prejudices (because plenty of non white people are prejudiced too) and we should just learn to get on. Live and let live.
I have black friends, only one asian friend and I used to have a chinese friend (we lost touch over the years) and none of them worry too much about racism. They ignore it, unless it turns physical. But they know their white friends will help them out.
Otherwise they treat racists the best way, ignore them for the ignorami they are.

It's all about personal opinions... if it were me, it would just roll off my back because I personally feel that by taking offence you are admitting to an inferiority complex, like there's something to mock when there isn't... you are also allowing bigots to win because they intended to offend in the first place...
oddly enough, I don't work down a mine or shag sheep so I'm not going to take offence... the same goes for people who complain about our anti english songs... I can categorically confirm that england isn't filled with excrement as the song goes so why would anyone take offence.... if our english players spent their young lives wading through poo on the streets then fair enough, but they didn't.
I do understand those who take offence when skin colour is brought into it but personally I wouldn't as I'd be extremely proud of my origins... |  |
