Reminds me of when (same time of year) we were wound up and the game against Walsall was cancelled. Few days later we played away at Cardiff

The saddest fact is the amount of money they were wound up for. I love the millions we have received but shake my head at the disparity between payments made in the premiership and the other divisions.

Terrible Christmas that year Clive. A lot of water under the bridge since then, but a lot of watery eyes were around too at the time.

Was it Boxing Day, almost 30 years ago? I think Nigel Vaughan scored a late winner against us. I was gutted at the result, obviously, but just glad that I was watching my team play at all!

My recollection is of a large (semi-circular?) flat at the front away end, then stepping up. Saw 1-1 in '81, lost after sudden death pens 5-4 in '86, and won 0-1 in '96 in New Division Three. Been to friendly since then, but can't remember the year.

Interesting point, but is it right we were not wound up, managed to stave off the order and proceeded ( contrary to cardiff point of view ) and succeeded to stay in the league ?
( I know we stayed in the league )

I'm finding it hard to understand that as a casual fan at that point this winding up in 1986 was nothing other than a stay of execution which we paid off ?

Although we lost I never remember a more euphoric game. Back from dead.

I always remember at the end someone had spray painted 'SCFC, alive and kicking' on the back wall of the Grange End. Said it all.

I read somewhere that they are relived to be being wound-up. The council we take back the ground which was leased and they will start again from scratch.
We should give them all the support we can,

If you can fill the unforgiving minute. With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

We were in the hands of the receiver, it was he and the FA..who decided if we could carry on. If my memory is still around, just previously to this happening the supporters club contributed to paying the players wages.
Mel Nurse a rock in those years, nagged many of us off our backsides to give every moment up to SOS.
A wonderful response followed.

That Boxing Day game in '96 sticks out in my memory for a number of reasons, firstly the huge numbers of us that turned up. Hereford were unprepared for that and ended up turning most of the main grandstand over to us as well as the crammed away end.

Mostly, though, I remember Hereford's huge, bald centre half getting stick all game and him not being able to keep a straight face. Shooting Stars had just come out and was big at the time and their player had to endure 90 minutes, non-stop of "He's a baby! He's a baby!"

Away games were so much more fun in the lower leagues than now.

I hope Hereford find a way back from this, I really do.

Hereford fan living in Swansea....thanks for your kind words.Yesterday was a bitter sweet day the last 6 months have been hell to see the new owners come in and refuse to pay a bond to keep us in the conference was a complete and utter disgrace,we all knew from that point they were only after one thing and that was obtaining the leases from the council who own the ground. We have had 9 court appearances adjourned everytime until yesterday where the judge could see right through what the owner was playing at. we have had around 1,500 boycotting the games where the crowds had fallen to around 200. while it's a relief the judge has put us out of our misery it is very sad to think 92 years vanished just like that.So now the hard work begins registering a new name with the FA as soon as possible and then we will know what league we will be put in most probably it will be the West Midlands division it will be fun going to away games where they most probably have average crowds of 50 i think we can safely say we will take quite a few and it will be a fun ride a bit like the Season we had in the Conference when we got relegated from the football league many years ago.It is hard to believe we were only playing the likes of Leeds, Leicester,& Millwall just five years ago.I still dream that one day we will have a police escort to the Liberty Stadium just like we had in 1997 when we lost 4-0 i think it was, as your dreams became reality few years ago playing in the biggest league in the world it gives me hope that my dreams will come true and a trip to the Liberty Stadium is a distinct possibility one day down the line.As someone once said football bloody hell.

Good luck Bully, it'll take a few years, but surely Hereford deserves a league club. Glad your council seems to see the value of its football club.

The owner sold the club down the swanny at the end of last season, fans had staved off closure with some incredible fundraising, there was a collection at the Liberty as part of that, and they paid a large tax bill and other bills. Then the owner sold the club to a bunch of crooks from Essex whos only aim was to make money by building a hotel etc on the site. The club was relegated from the conference for not putting a bond up, and have been playing in the southern league with a bunch of trialists who weren't good enough. The crooks aim was to keep football played on the ground while they got planning, build the hotel and then feck off with a pocket load of cash and leave the club in total shite. The fans recognised this at the start of the season, and crowds dropped from 2000 to 200, as fans boycotted the crooks.
The judge at the high court recognised this and decided to call a halt. The best decision he has ever made.
The council will now repossess the ground, and the supporters will form a new club, which in a few years will be back knocking on the door of the football league again.

Crooks? they are everywhere.
A hard time for Hereford fans, and sad that you lost the fight.
I remember putting in the buckets and thinking...we've been through this ourselves, and it hurts.

especially for the kids who have lost their local team and as they grow will venture further elswhere.

All those who boycotted the games, the money saved should have been put into a Trust fund, you all need to speak with ONE voice, it's the only way to get things done.

Very best of luck to you, Hoping to read more on Herefords future in the press.

Think David Penney scored the goal if I remember rightly?
I visited Hereford on a number of occasions watching the Swans and Dagenham & Redbridge. I've always enjoyed going there to a typical lower league ground with mis-matched stands (their large stand running down one side of the pitch must be the thinnest ever!!)
Have had good days watching the Swans win there in 1996 and also not so good days where Dagenham lost 1-0 in the last minute on a night which probably cost them promotion to the FL.
Good luck to all Hereford fans, I hope the club is up and running again soon and I will hope to visit Hereford to watch the Bulls again in the future.

I can confirm that this excellent summary of the situation is spot on, so don't feel too bad for the Hereford supporters, they are relieved to get rid of the criminal scum and leeches that had latched on to their club.

They are now looking forward to creating a phoenix club and starting the long climb up the divisions again, hopefully in tandem with the Council who should be giving back their ground to them. Good luck, the Bulls!

Seeing as we know a little bit about coming back from the dead the club should offer to extend a hand and offer to play a fund raising game up at Edgar Street. Villa too, for that matter.

I remember Man Utd did the same for us back in the mid '80s and just how much the gesture was appreciated.

Yes, and it was bitter sweet to see The Vetch full to bursting for that friendly with Man U.
Why were these fans absent for the months before?
Liverpool needs a little attention payed for the gesture to our club at that time! monies owed to them was wiped clean.
Your first paragraph is a great idea. You're on the list of "people to approach in times trouble"
