I can see both sides of this.
I doubt Williams is racist just young and thick not being aware that we live in strange times when offence can either be seen when there is none or where there is obvious offence but not ..
It is dense of him not to think before of how it might be perceived but sadly many young people are that shallow, naïve and immature that they cannot see the obvious..
Blacking up, right or wrong is an obvious faux pas, like it or not.
I used to get all annoyed about the term "welshing" on a deal which to me is utterly offensive and worthy of a good kick in the teeth |
"Welshing" isn't offensive either, its not derived from the country or indeed have anything to do with its people... but a word in its own right and in the Oxford English. just like the term "Indian summer" has nothing to do with India. it is regarding the Celts and the belief in an after life.

What is celebrity? There's loads of celebrities that you haven't heard of I'm sure. Specifically in cross sections of media that your not overly into. Just because you don't care about it doesn't mean they haven't any celebrity. |  |

Most will have jobs, where, as in all workplaces, people talk about sport, most sports. I don't like cricket, not one little bit, but i could name quite a few current cricketers. Eastenders, cooking programs, xfactor, they all get talked about, you can't help to be in peoples company who talk about these things. News, newspapers, forums, radio etc etc etc. Wales isn't a big place, there aren't that many international sports people in the area.
One or two (strange people) will no doubt have not heard of him, but the rest are football snobs pretending they haven't heard of him or any of the other players.

The "National news" being the Western Mail? It's the national daily newspaper of Wales bit it's got less circulation than the evening post . And if it didn't give half the half the attention to rugby that it does this may not heave even been picked up on.
The fact that it has should suggest to even the thickest posting "I can't see what's wrong with it" that, err, there's something jaw droppingly wrong with it. Or maybe it's because he didn't white out his lips and around his eyes that somehow makes it ok?
I don't say that Liam Williams is a racist because of it but it's a poor judgement call from him and his mates who should have told him "FFS don't post this on social media".

Well I agree there may have been no intent but don't people unintentionally offend others from time to time. His statement after expressing his regret was welcome but actually blacking up when not black yourself should be left in the 1970's. It has no place in today's society, no matter what the intentions are. I can't see how any black people would fail to be at least bemused by what Liam did if not offended outrightly. Can see why Nathan Blake objects and he's I absolutely right to do so. | |
