communism worked for a while there in Yugo, then the big US got their dirty fingers involved and destroyed everything they truly are an evil government which ever one.

I am not familiar with the idea you mention lohegrin, which shows my lack of political knowledge very interesting concept though, as it is what the difference between the two parties not much in the clasemans poll and not much in policy, ones is going to make deep cuts and the other wide cuts, I don't really know what the reality of the different cuts is, they are both butchers.

plaid snp greens are all anti austerity so i'll go there, maybe not snp, but as mentioned why bother we all know who'll get in in Swansea its a very safe seat for slave labour no matter what happens we are just moronic sheep moving towards the blade, the silence of the lambs!

We don't act like labour/socialist council only the name is socialist. Why don't people look at the policies rather than listen to the old guys who voted according to class, we are surrounded by morons who are not interested in anything other than x factor, really now! there are not many people who have any knowledge about politics, I get what Russell is on about by none of the above, I wonder what would happen if people were forced to vote, I guess you'd get people saying i'm not voting for them they are making me get of my fat ass and vote the basrtds.

thing is with having the clergy in politics they really have to be left wing unless were talking about the bible belt in the US, which is fine for me, but then anyone who makes a donation to a party wants something out of it surely. There are not many philanthropist businesses out there.

Plaid are just a bunch of communists and anyone voting for them should have their head read.

Plaid are a bunch of communists? Ffs if Plaid are communists, then the lib dems are facists. Dont people read and listen to party policies and not just vote for personalities ?

The short answer to that is no.

So far 270 votes have been cast.
35.6% have voted for UKIP who lead the poll.

Should we read anything in to this on a wider level ?

No. The day the good citizens of Planet Swans are representative of anything other than a couple of dozen Internet savvy football nerds is the day we all need to say "no more".

Also, 270 votes? You can't count!

Looking at those options, it brings to mind:
Firing Squad
Lethal Injection
Stoning
Hanging
Extreme Torture
Beheading
Increasingly harsh tickling

Either way, the end result is always the same

It's not a new idea by any means its had plenty of advocates down the years, a few notables being Lloyd George and sometimes Keynes. The basic premise being both Houses become Technocratic workshops instead of talking shops. Let's say for example you worked within the automotive industry. Come election time (I think a five year cycle being the preferred option) you would vote for a candidate(s) that stood to advance the interests of that field. It simply asked people to trust the evidence of their own eyes within their workplace as to whether or not things were going well, and if not who offered the best policies going forward. It advocated governance by experts and valued detailed knowledge of the particular.

The Upper Chamber would become an advisory body populated by the most senior, the most experienced and acclaimed drawn from Industry, Commerce, The Arts etc... a sounding board and guiding hand to the Lower House.

Haven't we got there already? Just replace the word industry with finance ?

I'll give you a genuine answer. The only reason I find them more palatable is because of the local candidates. At the end of the day I'm voting for the person who will be my MP in parliament. I was under the impression that I was in Swansea East but apparently Llangyfelach for the most part is located in Gower. This came as quite a shock as I was only informed of this when I recieved election literature that was aimed at voters in "Gower". This seat is a straight Labour/Tory race so any other vote is wasted. My vote will at least count for something as that is the only way to increase its value. By and large I'm quite left wing on most things and the Labour Party has continuously f**ked me off since Tony Bliar took office so I'd quite happily spite them if it made them value my vote a bit more in the future.

I've spoken to both Carolyn Harris and Liz Evans of the Labour party in the last two months and they are infinitely more desirable characters I'd want to be my MP compared to their conservative and Liberal counterparts. It is almost guaranteed that my next MP will either be Liz Evans or Byron Davies so my decision has to be made rationally in which one I'd prefer.

Byron Davies is a contemptible man who is clearly only in it for himself and the social prestige that comes with the title. He's been a terrible Assembly Member, not attending what he's supposed to and falling out with pretty much everyone in the Senedd. A political backbone is nothing to be ashamed of but not going to a committee because you don't like your boss as a person is absolutely outrageous. I wish I could do that in my job. He's happy to bemoan service cuts and dogsh*t on pavements but of all the people running he's had the best opportunity to impact some change and he's failed to do so. There is nothing that he's done as an AM which makes me think he deserves a shot at Parliament.

I spoke to Liz Evans not long after Christmas. I had practically no idea who she was or what she stood for. After a conversation with her she came across as an intelligent, well spoken candidate but quite normal and very on the level. She said that she was from Hafod and her father was a submariner in the Second World War. Her opinions were fairly left wing and she said that she had already disagreed with people within the party on quite a bit. If she gets to parliament I'd very much like it if she kept that up because some people in that building need to ask themselves why they went into politics. As a former public sector worker she wants to go into politics to protect ordinary working people. She may not carry that through but at least she's coming from a background where she know what effect the decisions and cuts have on normal people. It's easy to slash budgets when you have no empathy.

Having spoken to the candidates for our area they definitely do not come from the Tristram Hunt/Chuku Umunna and soon to be Stephen Kinnock wing of the party and this pleases me greatly.

Its quite a long post but my father drilled into me the importance and power of a vote. I'd hate to upset him by becoming apathetic.

Top post. This is what politics should be about. Making as informed a decision as you can about who you want to represent you. I'd forget the leaders and the cr@p we read in the national press (e.g. UKIP scaremongering) as that's what's turning us off. Maybe it's time for voters to focus more at the constituency level. Not everyone will get the chance to speak directly to the candidates, but you can still assess the value of an individual candidate by the role they've played recently in local issues, or in this case as an AM.

Time to (re)connect with our local candidates?

Has to be Labour otherwise the Tories get in, such is the state of our democracy. At least the candidates in Swansea East and Gower used to be working class.

If you think UKIP is a protest vote then you're a complete moron. They represent every bit as much of the establishment as the other main parties with some nasty ultra thatcherite policies thrown in to boot. If you vote UKIP because you think their policies represent you then you're also a moron unless you're a massive racist who wants the NHS privatized, employment rights scrapped, mass de-regulation of the financial services and loads of other sh*t deemed too right wing for Dave Cameron's new era Tory party.

After reading your vitriol against anyone daring to click on UKIP...

I clicked on UKIP.

Thanks for swaying that for me.
