Wales wont become richer by speaking welsh more often, its a complete irrelevance and the language was the basic of Plaid s creation.,ie primarily welsh speaking orientated.
Just to let you now when I was a kid my mum used to sing ;she was a beautiful and powerful mezzo and was invited to a National Eisteddfod and went only to find her inability to speak Welsh made her an outcast and she was shunned in a petty and vicious way that shamed any pride I had in my country. We can be a spiteful, shallow, inward looking shower .

That para about your Mum is very sad but things seem to have changed a lot. Myself and my wife volunteered at the Eisteddfod at Velindre and, although not speaking a word of Welsh were made very welcome. As a result the two of us took Welsh learners classes for 5 years.

If all the people who say the same thing (that the Welsh Labour party care only about the South East and don't need to worry because they'll always be voted back in) decided to vote for one specific party other than Labour that would be enough to unseat one of the regular Labour donkeys.

It's already happened in Blaenau Gwent which went from being the safest Labour seat in the UK to having having an independent MP, AM and independent controlled council but it didn't end well. The council were incompetent and were a whisker away from ending up like Anglesey council, there were tourists in Cardiff Bay with a better attendance record than the AM and the MP's only achievement was to try, unsuccessfully, to have pigeon racing recognised as a sport.
Blaenau Gwent is now one of the safest Labour seats in the UK again. | |

Me mum still alive btw and still sings at 87 yrs old mainly in chapels in Neath/Dulais.Swansea valleys. Ive a long memory and not that forgiving as a person.
I stand by every word I say however regarding the language as I see a more vibrant and wealthy WALES before one with more Welsh speakers, whom I actually do not hate mainly because all my father s family were Welsh speakers and still haver friends who are. HELL ,Ibe also worked with a GOG from Caernarfon who always thought in Welsh first.

It is a bit bewildering how Wales has swung to the conservatives.
All in all a sensible vote I think for Wales in general but to me it says a lot more about the rejection of the Labour Party in Wales...a traditional stronghold.
That party has really lost its way/identity flirting in the middle ground of politics with the conservatives themselves.
It's sad to see the party I once loved diminish into a shadow of its former self. After Blair it has put off a great swathe of the population from having confidence in Labour for a long time to come.
Also, it does nt look good in the leadership stakes for the future of Labour.

I've been saying it over and over for months, Doc, though it has given me no pleasure whatsoever as someone who would uphold Plaid's founding principles. In terms of voting percentage, despite holding on to the three seats Plaid have polled significantly less across Wales as a whole than UKIP who have none. [Post edited 8 May 2015 10:19]

Wales has just elected more Tory MPs than the majority they will have. Now if the electorate could put pressure on those Tory MPs to start standing up for Welsh interests, ironically Wales will have a bigger say than the SNP who will just sit there unable to influence anything even though they have 50 odd seats.
