Yes I can see he's advocating the reopening of the mines and 'regeneration' of the steel industry. He should just rename the party to the 'Pretend it's 1983' group.

there are millions of tonnes left - you are absolutely right.

However, the price of coal (caused by various worldwide factors including shale gas, the $ to £ exchange rate, carbon levies on coal fired power stations etc etc etc) mean that it is largely uneconomical to get it out.

So am I, and so is my wife and after seeing what the mining industry did to some of our family's health I was not sorry to see them close.
The tragedy is, as far as the Valleys are concerned,is that alternative employment didn't replace it.

Scargill reminds me of a simpler time when left was left, right was right and everyone knew where they all stood. He's mental of course and probably one of the biggest "class" traitors of the century. But he's still box office when he speaks.

Yawwwn. More socialist bilf.

Drag everyone down instead of stretching everyone from the top.

Everything is fine if somebody else can pay for your lifestyle.

Spot on, the "evil one's" crime wasn't closing the mines, it was not having a plan to replace the jobs lost. I've worked underground and lost a family member to a rockfall and I certainly don't lament after the demise of the mining industry.

I've no time for Arthur scargill, but he was demonized by Rupert Murdoch's Tory press, and anybody who believes the lies they printed is even more deluded than scargill is now.

The Hillsborough enquiry has shown how open and honest uk police forces were in the 1980's

Scargill was speaking the truth as he saw it, and still sees it. Even if he is clearly mistaken on many issues.
The Tory government and police were lying through their teeth and knew they were lying.
For me there is a big difference.

I agree with much of this manifesto, banning private education would force the politicians to send their kids to state schools (end of the "old boy network). Also ban private health care, make the rich and powerful use NHS I'm sure things would soon improve then.
Unfortunately the UK is too "right wing" and fearful to adopt these radical policies but they are the only answer to getting a fairer society for all.

While we're at it why don't we just get rid of money? everyone should work for the state/public sector. Sounds like a great idea.

Why not, this would help stop the corruption.

So basically, ban anything that someone has that you don't?

Excellent. Ban detached houses. We can all live in communal towerblocks. Ban any cars more powerful than a Trabant, or force everyone to use public transport.

Let's go all the way Comrade.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

No let's all have a detached house ( I've already got one) . I've got nothing against a good life for all not only the wealthy minority.

As long as that good life doesn't include using your own money to alleviate strain on the education system or NHS? Even though it's highly likely that you've already contributed heavily towards them via tax or NI and are, in effect, paying twice to do so?

Contrary to popular belief the UK is a very wealthy area of the world (6th richest nation) . Unfortunately that vast wealth is concentrated on a very small (2%) of the UK population who try to hoodwink the rest to believe that we cannot have a share of the good life as they are not willing to share any of their vast wealth. It has always been thus and will probably always be we are just pawns in their game.

I think this is the capitalist con (sounding like a bit of a comrade now). It may be cheaper to get the resources from china but the only ones ,making the gains are the private companies. If for example coal was extracted in the UK again it may cost more but I would provide jobs which would add more taxes to the treasury and get people of benefits. This only benefits the state and not private interests so with the way the world is will never happen. That said mining is incredibly bad for the environment and not a pleasant job so it is not the end of the world that it is gone from Wales. It is wrong that the jobs were never replaced though.

Upthecity!

When we used to have industry we had GDP. I'm sure a bit of that would have helped the UK through the deficit cricsis, because the deficit wouldn't have been so large. It's the irresponsible c*nts at the top who have landed us in this boat and are still picking up large f*cking bonuses whilst the poorest foot the bill.

So as far s you're concerned it's ok for the poor to fund the W*nkers luxuriant lifestyles and pay for their mistakes?

Good old Arthur is a multi millionaire now and has done very nicely for himself. Maybe that was his plan all along.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
