Thanks gazza. Perhaps they'll get a local US team to replace them.

Google's translation is a little awkward, so I've tinkered with it:

"Málaga's trip to Dallas is off, this newspaper has been informed. The club has revealed itself to be extremely unhappy with the organisation of this international tournament that would force staff to take the club to America for at least 10 days. The Malaga team representative who was sent to Dallas has submitted a highly negative report on the organisation of the tournament, including the hotels to be used, the state of the pitches and other elements of the tour which did not meet the minimum standards for an elite team. As a result the club has already informed the organisers of its intention to suspend participation.

The decision can be considered as being definite, unless there is a major change in the next few hours, but the chances of Malaga playing are almost non-existent. This tournament was expected to see how Malaga could be measured against Newcastle, Swansea, Casablanca, Lyon and Pachuca. Pulling out of the tournament would be a significant reduction in revenues, as the club could potentially receive nearly half a million euros if it won win the tournament, besides all expenses.

The upside of this cancellation focuses on the organisation of the preseason training, because participation in the tournament in Dallas would have forced the team back from vacation before the end of June. This change will surely allow the schedule to be put back a little later. In any event, the suspension of travel to the United States will not mean that the options preseason outside Spain are closed, and that this change of course might be replaced by another that serves as preparation and to play in a tournament. For now, however, all that is known is that the club has announced its suspension of the trip."

The remark about Pitch Quality is confusing because Frisco's Park is a Soccer specific facility that is considered quality enough over here to host a couple of CONCACAF Gold Cup Matches a week earlier.

The Cotton Bowl is not a Soccer specific facility, but it's hosted major events before with little complaint, My guess is that Malaga was looking for a way to pull out, and used those excuses as reasons.

Yeah and the Cotton Bowl was used in the 1994 World Cup, as well as by FC Dallas/Dallas Burn before the Frisco facility was built.

Something is very weird about this whole thing though - particularly the fact there have been no local announcements made about this event yet, and we're now less than 2 months away. I tweeted a message last week to both facilities inquiring about it, and they seem a little confused at best.

They could have shortened that press release by saying ' we are fcking skint and can't afford it'

And people think Michu could pick up 15k a week if he went back to Spain.

I think not !
