Big race starting this weekend and 10 British riders including 2 welshmen will make it all the more interesting. Team sky packed with brits which thankfully is a complete reversal from the giro. Hope cav is back to his best and can dominate stage wins.
Fantastic event and one of my highlights of the sporting calender.

I enjoy following the tour. The coverage is great too, a holiday show and with drama of sport rolled into one enjoyable hour package on ITV4.

Can't wait, it's going to be fab. Extra interest for me this year, because it's starting in Utrecht, and the first proper road stage takes in the Western coast of the Netherlands, including a stage finish on the coastal defence works in Zeeland. I cycled all over there last summer, and am going again in three weeks' time.

You can watch from around 1.30pm on ITV 4 each day. That way you get to see more of the stunning scenery. Also on Eurosport but I prefer the excellent commentary on ITV.

Followed the spring classics and Giro closely this year, cant wait to see the big hitters in the GC go up against each other, but also the sprints on the flat days.

for me,
GC - Contador
Points - John Degenkolb

also would expect to see Kwiatkowski grab a stage or two

ITv's commentary on the tour is brilliant. Pretty much the best commentary team for any sporting event of any description on British TV.
Love cycling - was in Sa Calobra last week and am in awe of the pro cyclists.

If Contador keeps his nose clean until the last week then i really can't see anyone beating him. As in last years Vuelta, Froome and sky struggle to attack him. Nibali is consistent and supported by a strong team of dopers so you can't rule him out either. Its no forgone conclusion though and it will be great to see these three (and Quintana) battle it out.

As a viewing spectacle I class cycling along with F1 in the "boring as f*ck" stakes. But each to their own.

Were you riding out there Lisa? That's a bucker list climb right there.

Would love to go for a long weekend to Mallorca with the bike. Unfortunately I have to settle with just taking the mrs.

Riding is too strong a word - puttering about a bit would be more accurate.

Didn't attempt the climb - my bucket would be kicked very quickly if I did that at the moment - far too unfit for it, so did the climb by car instead.

Came back though with an absolute determination to get better and fitter again so I can ride more - would have to do slightly less tapas and red wine for the week as well :-)

A colleague was doing some serious cycling there the week before me - she is a very very good triathlete and they go out to train quite frequently. It's stunning - I absolutely love Mallorca.

That climb though is just unbelievable - you should definitely do it, and your wife if she's no interest could wait in that fab little cafe three quarters of the way up, and listen to their brilliant stories about the people that they've had in there. We were regaled with Lewis Hamilton, Tom Hanks and Halle Berry last week (nice, really nice and bitch in summary)! Some lovely places to stay around there as well - it's actually a great place to be if one of you wants to ride and one wants to laze by the pool.

Each to their own indeed. Its a case of tatics, beautiful scenery, bike porn and some of the toughest sportsmen out there.
Becoming involved in the sport has opened my eyes to it as a viewing spectacle tbh.

Grew up with wall to wall coverage of the Tour (and all other events for that matter), as my father is a mad cycling fan, so I guess it's what you're used to.

I'm looking forward to it hugely - it'll be interesting to see La Course again this year as well, although I can't wait for the women to have a full stage and then full event.

Shame though that Vos isn't around this year with injuries etc - she is an outstanding cyclist, but the British girls are having a good season as well.

It'll be fascinating to see how Geraint Thomas gets on this year.

Brailsford keeps on talking about G as one day leading the team at a GT but the lad is 29 now, not as if hes a kid. Maybe he needs a move to fulfil his potential?

Yes - that's why I am fascinated.

I think this may be make or break for him with Team Sky. Don't want to see him being held back any more (and I'm not saying he's good enough, but I'd like to see whether he is or not).

Look forward to the tour every year, fantastic coverage these days........in a way its a shame that the riders dont quite get the respect they deserve here whereas in europe their up there as the kings of sport.

Degenkolb doesn't have the raw power of cav or kittel, so would need to do it in a Peter Sagan kind of way.

The problem with that is Peter Sagan and the strength of the tinkoff team.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Thats right 200km everyday for 3 weeks, in sweltering heat, over the highest mountains in europe at ridiculous speeds is a piece of cake.
