Osvaldo cost Saints up to £15m including Transfer fee, agents and signing on fee. It's the equivilant of us signing Bony only to find he was utter gash and released him for nowt instead of selling him on for £28m! Wow!

It also goes to show the lengths clubs will go to ensure players likely to disrupt a well performing squad are not allowed to do so. I'm pleased to see we've adopted that approach too.

Shaqiri has always struck me as a very talented player when I've seen him in European and World Cup action. Gobsmacked that he's going to Stoke.

With himand Bojan, they will have a couple of very skillfull players. Hughes obviously trying to get them playing a more attractive style.

Hughes has definitely changed their style of play, hence the Stoke fans new chant last season "We're passing the ball, we're passing the ball, we're Stoke City, we're passing the ball". They should finish somewhere about 10th.

Yeah, I regarded him as a player that was going to be in the elite of european football. Remember seeing him playing for the Swiss U-21s a few years ago and he was on a different planet to everyone else on the pitch, incredible player.

Something must have gone hideously wrong for him to be going to Stoke aged 23.

Enjoying the next level

Good player.

No real shame in playing as a back-up in the Bayern Munich and Inter Milan sides for the last couple of seasons given the wingers/midfielders - particularly BM have. If Hughes can get performances out of him, he'll be a bargain.

"Michu, Britton and Williams could have won 3-0 on their own. They wouldn't have required a keeper."

Maybe he sees Stoke as a doorway into the PL?

Reports that Fabian Delph is on his way to Man City to help with their English players quota. Signed a new contract in January but it's been reported it included an £8m fee release clause. Madness if true.

i was surprised he signed a contract tbh and didn't hold out for a bug sign on fee when a club came for him, if he leaves Villa and Vlaar and Benteke then they need serious rebuild, is Sherwood the right man for that?

Weren't we linked to both these players at some point in these past 4 seasons?

Should be a good pair of signings for Watford if it pulls off

This Spurs/Saints haggle over Alderwerald is really strange, how can Saints force the transfer, surely he could just say he doesn't want to sign the contract?

Just going back to Shaqiri, it seems while Inter want him to go to Stoke, he's not too keen. He'd prefer to stay and fight for his place at Inter or at least move to a bigger club. Stoke apparently trying to use our approach describing the club as a springboard for him. Imagine that's how they got Bojan to sign also.

The problem for them there is they don't have any kind of record as a 'springboard' club. Their record sale is Tuncay for £4.5m in 2011 to Wolfsburg, for less than they paid for him. Doesn't really compare to us selling players to Man City (x2), Liverpool and Spurs in the last 4 years. Or Southampton as possibly the ultimate 'springboard' club currently.

I hope they fail to convince him, because he looks a class player whenever I've seen him.
