Lol.

Good luck to the Greeks then. No more bailouts. Syriza expected ECB and IMF to bend over for them, not going to happen. Economy shutting down, Syriza with no clue other than sabre rattling.

For the Greeks, financially they will be international pariahs for years, maybe even decades to come. No institution will dare risk lending a penny to them. Bringing back the drachma isn't a miracle cure.

For the Eurozone, hopefully a prolonged but managed demise. Convergence between such disparate economies was always a dumb experiment.

For the EU, hopefully less of the union and more of the trading block it should have been.

Its high time a country stood up to the nonsense EU, bail outs the have made millions for the IMF?

Im sure a country as in the landmass will last far longer than the current nonsense that is the EU and aimed at Greece.

Hopefully it will mean a shake up for the EU and a big reality check, you cant have countries of different scales trying to operate on the same level. Its like asking a Yorkshire terrier to be the same as an Alsatian, it just doesn't work.
The whole thing is a mess!
The Greek debt needs to be properly managed, this simply is not happening at the moment! not with the shite that is currently being offered that will cause more problems down the line and of no benefit to anyone.

iTS NOW SIMPLE FOR THEM..instead of handing over a billion euros to the ECB just put it back into the economy and give a chunk to the banks to increase liquidity...a no brainer.

So the Greek government and people bear no responsibility whatsoever?

Tax evasion is ok as long as it's the plebs doing it widely? yes, Greece has been shambolically run - the nation equivalent of Cardiff City.

Greeks have had a very nice lifestyle without worrying about the simple fact of how to pay for it. Fake figures to get into the EuroZone, rely upon everybody else writing off debts. Refuse to pay yet want to borrow more.

Syriza's problem is that the biggest problem is the pathetically low tax collection figures. Claiming "oh, we don't need too much austerity we can just collect taxes" isn't a winning argument given the historical lack of ability to do so - especially given that their voters would object to actually paying taxes.

Utterly agree the EU needs a shakeup, it's a failed socialist experiment. Go back to what they had a mandate for - a trading block to rival NAFTA.

Hmm, no brainer yet not quite that simple.

1bn is a large figure sure. Once that's back in the Greek economy they have the simple tax of being able to fund all their pensions, infrastructure etc. Hmm, where will Greece get that money from? Actually paying taxes?

The resolutions are simple yet this just highlights that banks are still corrupt the world over and are still trying to make a dirty profit!

Nah, it's not that simple.

If it was, then the Greeks wouldn't be facing the situation of having to beg for more money to rescue their economy having pissed off the credittors, meaning little f***s will be given.

EDIT: Which was actually the worst case for Syriza. Rattle the sabres, talk the good talk but have to fall on their swords "will of the people to agree...". The vote didn't go the way Syriza really wanted. They are now royally f***ed as the only solution they have will be to run their economy properly. As in enforcing taxation.

This is all part of the end game.

Looks like the can has been kicked as far down the road as it can now.

Greece will exit just pray people it does nt cause too much disruption on the already nervous financial markets or it will be the beginning of the end for the euro currency...which will have an affect on us.

After the default Putin is waiting in the wings to offer financial help and settlement to a new debt free Greece.

Increase the tariff on energy The EU has to have; make The EU pay off the Greek debt with its own money?

No, but what about the scenario of a newly enboldened Greece with The Kremlin stood behind them looking to settle old scores in Cyprus?

So that resolves the debt. EU pay Russia more, Russia uses the surplus to give to Greece to maintain the Greeks oh so nice but underfunded by taxation lifestyle.

How then do the Greeks repay Russia? "All the Ouzo you can drink" offer to Putin?

What then happens should Putin put up energy prices and EU politely tell him to put his shirt on and do one as they explore alternative energy sources?

And free from the shackles of EU immigration policy, I doubt all the Iraqis, Syrians, Afghans etc. etc. piling up there will be allowed to stay much longer

I'd give them about five weeks, tops.

What do you imagine Putin would want by way of a quid pro quo? How about a naval base in the Aegean or Ionian Sea?

That would be one, sure.

Would be one hell of a cost for Russia though. Given Greeks actually paying taxes isn't going to happen in several generations, Russia would have to subsidise them to one hell of an extent.
