Only if it's written in stone...

I have just looked at this with interest. As I am living here in the States,I have lost touch with the political scene in the UK. To see Corbyn as the leading candidate is mind blowing, but I would rather have him as a leader than Cooper,Burham ,than the non entity that is Harriett Harperson. The most principled are Corbyn and Abbott, they have personalities much like Trump is a leading candidate over here. Isesu Mawr if Trump ever became President I would build a fall out shelter! But coming back to Corbyn all I say that is very interesting to see Labour moving back to its roots!

Bookies don't currently have Corbyn favourite, some people say that it seems like all the stops are being pulled out to prevent people from voting for Corbyn, the last thing the left need is to have Corbyn in charge of Labour.

Corbyn cannot be a real socialist otherwise he would not be in the modern Labour party which is a Tory party, therefore Corbyn must be considered a fraud just like the rest of Labour, they are traitors to the working class and the poor, looking at the big picture it will be a bad result for the left UK wide if Corbyn gets elected.

As Mhairi Black said ''It was the Labour party that left me, not the other way about.”
Exactly young lady, exactly.

The problem with Corbyn is some voters that voted SNP might go back to Labour because of Corbyn, Leanne Wood [a real proper socialist] tries to appeal to ex Labour voters/potential ex Labour voters to vote Plaid, Corbyn might make that job a lot harder.
As regards England, Corbyn will not appeal to many English [relatively speaking, percentage wise], the English are not like the Celts who are left leaning the English are right leaning.

The best thing that could happen is the left through the SNP and Plaid bust the union apart and we have a Federal UK, the UK stays together, we can have left leaning policies in Wales and Scotland and the English can have right leaning policies.

I don't think Corbyn would be good looking at the big picture for the 'left' due to the reasons I have outlined plus the fact that he would be encouraging voters from the position of leader to vote for a Tory party because that is what Labour are, its bad enough now as an MP that Corbyn is encouraging people to vote for the Red Tories.

You only have to look at Swansea Bay and also the plans for SA1 to know how much money is sloshing around universities.

Fair and whilst I completely agree that Universities should be more quality over quantity and that there are probably too many Universities in the UK, SA1 or not less fewer students at Swansea would be felt in the Swansea economy. Let's not start on Bangor, parts of Swansea are dead out of term time but most of Bangor has tumble-weeds going through it outside of term time.

Blair became the leader of the labour party before she was born, so not sure when exactly she was left by them or was she the world's first socialist foetus?

I like your thinking though - he shouldn't become leader because it may make people vote for him who like his policies - that's definitely one of the think tank's finest.

I think social justice parties like Plaid the SNP and the Greens would be better off if Corbyn lost.
So they could [should in my view] attack Labour over and over for being a Tory party and keep telling people they are a Tory party and that will be easier without Corbyn being leader.

Even with Corbyn Labour would still be a Tory party as Corbyn will only win if the right wing vote within the party is split, so even if he wins he would be the most popular candidate but he would have more enemies than friends so the situation won't last anyway, I read one observer saying that these days at most its only 30% of the Labour party that is left leaning, others say its only 5%.

The left leaning Celts would be better off if the union fractures so Wales and Scotland can get more left leaning policies.

What do we want?

A sensibly applied marginal tax rate that maximises revenue for HM Treasury while ensuring those who can afford to pay a bit more do so.

When do we want it?

Whenever you can find the necessary parliamentary time to amend the required legislation.

As slogans go, it's a winner I reckon.

yes and no. I'm not sure if you're trying to say that the University are rich and paying for such schemes out of their own funds. For the SA1 and Singleton developments it's more a case of them being able to lever funding (mostly European) that the council can't. The council and Uni are eligible for different pots of cash from Europe, so can team up to get these projects done. Leave Europe and Swansea would be stuffed of course...

I know it shouldn't but it boils my f*cking blood.

I remember there was a Caribbean fella on newsnight and he was asked if he thought what she said was inappropriate, his response was an emphatic no.

Could you imagine if that sentence was uttered by someone else and made reference to black/Asian etc.

There would have been outrage, and rightly so. Yet the labour party want to lecture us on equality and diversity. C*nts

It's why I have contempt for them .

I don't like state control
I prefer to spend my money as I see fit

I don't like the nanny state.

Sadly the tories are in some ways the new Labour Party as they seem to have ditched traditional values of work, thrift, care, and real justice for victims of crime.

The criminal justice system is a shambles and this govt has not the guts to do what most of us want.

oh, you mean you're generalising then?

In all seriousness Trampie, there is a higher 'right wing' vote in more affluent areas - it's always been the case. The reason that England shows a higher Tory vote than Wales or Scotland is because it has a higher % of affluent areas compared with the other two countries. You can see the effect of this in this time's Gower vote. Nothing to do with 'natural' left leaning / right leaning at all. If Wales suddenly discovered enormous oil reserves and the entire population became rich on the back or it, you'd find votes suddenly changing to protect that wealth (or what people think of as protecting it). It's just the way it is, rightly or wrongly.

True dat. People mainly vote for self interest. When it comes down to it the Tories are seen as the party that will protect the interests of the already better off. Labour is perceived as the party for the less well off which is why its core vote is mainly concentrated in (sorry Perch) traditional working class areas. Whether you agree with those perceptions depends entirely on viewpoint and experiences and it really is traditional British politics boiled down to its most simplistic level. In recent years the line has become blurred hence the rise of smaller parties and why the main two now get less votes between them than ever before.

On the subject of "state control" and the perception that Labour is the only party that does it. That's nonsense. Governments exist to legislate and control. All of them.

surely it couldn't be the case that they aren't names in the history books to the speech writer. I mean, I know that the SNP leadership realised that there would be huge publicity of her maiden speech because of her age and all that, but surely they wouldn't be that cynical would they??
