He'd be turning in his grave if he did and visited the Gyp.

If it is legalised, then I can see the police randomly drug testing drivers, as per the breathalyser. There won't be many of you lot left on the road !!!

Why? It's because its harmful.

Legalising it will not see the end of drug dealing.

They will still provide a service to idle to go out and buy.

I see shimmie s point but don't agree .

That s fine.

Not as harmful as that German gulp you buy in Aldi every night.

Luckily they didn't 20 odd years ago - I remember one particular night where I drove at about 10mph from North to South London laughing hysterically all the way

It's the "legal" highs that are the problem these days.

How those shops are allowed to trade is absolutely baffling. Some horrific stories involving these drugs the past twelve months locally, all seem to involve kids under 16 as well. Frightening.

I think the key word there is "legal".

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Over twenty years ago I worked with a guy who genuinely believed everything should be legalised but to obtain these drugs you would have to attend certain specialist pharmacies. Here you would be checked for any health issues, your id verified and you would sign a disclaimer on every visit.

You would have to give up your driving licence and take a sobriety test before attending any work involving machinery or working at heights etc. Then do what ever takes your fancy on the premises, if you overdosed then there is every chance you would do that on the street and die so here at least you had a chance of surviving.

It would cut out dealers, prevent infections through clean needles and trained medical personnel checking you out regularly, there would be support workers on hand to help those who wanted to come off. It would reduce crime as there is no point stealing to get money for drugs, less deaths as medical intervention would be quicker so less overall cost to the NHS. Social workers would have a more accurate idea of which children are in need of support or intervention. Nobody driving around stoned.

To balance that policy anybody found importing or street dealing full life time prison.

At that time I thought he was mad now I can see where he was coming from.

They're only legal because lots of the newly invented chemicals are not yet on the illegal list,no sooner they ban one when the Chinese etc invent another one.

They're legal because they are everyday compounds used in a host of genuine everyday appliances. Nitrous oxide of course is used in engines. It's hard to ban stuff like that.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Legal highs have already been outlawed (not sure when the ban comes in).

Still legal though.

When they ban them then fine, shut down the shops selling them. Until then demanding that they close down businesses selling perfectly legal items is just silly.

Maybe we should be asking why people need to take Cannabis in the first place whether its legal or not.

I actually agree with this Perch, but there are so many reasons that we'd be here forever.

However, the same question could be asked about drinking and smoking couldn't it? Why do people seek thrills through extreme sports? Why do some people meditate?

Surely it's all because of a human tendency to try and extend our boundaries, drugs (of any kind) are just another means to this end in many cases.

I drink a beer in a room.

It doesnt stink the place out and it doesn't make me want to extend boundaries.

I've gone 65 years being able to enjoy myself without the Need to get high on substances.

Many need it, I don't.

The drink argument is always used to counter a view it should not be legalised.

It misses the point.

Frankly, I d double the tax on alcohol and quadruple that on tobacco.

We need to do something to stop this drink and drug culture

With respect, no you haven't.

I imagine, from your posts on here about wine etc that you don't go a week without getting high on substances, let alone 65 years.

It's just that your drug of choice is alcohol.

You may say that doesn't stink (although go into a pub since the smoking ban was implemented and there's a good argument for that being incorrect) but then cannabis doesn't make people get argumentative and fight each other in the street every weekend.

At least if cannabis was legalised, it would mean that young people searching for it wouldn't come into contact with dealers that then try to get them onto worse and more addictive drugs. It would also mean that the quality / strength could be standardised which would be beneficial.

Quite a staggering post lisa.

So a glass of wine in a room is an offensive a smell as cannabis?

If you believe that, then we re done as regards debate.

My choice.? Well yes and frankly if people are trying to justify the legalising of cannabis by implying a GLASS OF WINE is as intrusive then my opinion is that there are bonkers.

Not sure what social circles you run with but mine are a glass of wine over a good meal rather than smoke a splif and drift away into a never never land of peace and tranquillity.

Its also not the case cannabis is not harmful or cant make people aggressive. It can but its many supporters on here will deny that to support their argument.

THEREFORE, I disagree with you .

Many would also do so
