Got an old glow worm boiler working fine but its service was due so outcome Scottish power the fitter took one look at it said sorry there's asbestos in that model cant work on it

Its probably asbestos rope/string that's used as a seal around the burner compartment, if you're careful you can take the burner out without disturbing it, not easy granted, but it can be done failing that another option is to wet it, although I no PLC company would go down that road, apart from the risk to the fitter you're exposing asbestos to the home owner and their family, the fitter surely should have advised or at least asked his employer of the way forward, the best outcome would be to remove the boiler complete without disturbing the asbestos around the burner housing, ideally you don't want that stuff in your home, although most artexed ceilings have asbestos in their make up, depending on its age. |  |
