Aye, like the govt won't charge. It's only gone up 10p this year, but that will mean 20p next and £7 the year after. It is, as you say, a f***ing rip off. Three times a week for me too, to get to the lovely (much better than Liverpool) old city of Bristol.

I'd love to know the difference between construction cost and revenue generated. Neo Liberalism eh? Bristol nice indeed, never been to Liverpool as yet. Some odd types reside that way apparently... [Post edited 31 Dec 2015 19:27]

Severn Bridge Tolls increase at midnight on 20:57 - Dec 31 with 1378 views | Bloodyhills | Funding and ownership The bridge was built at a cost of £380 million and is owned by the company Severn River Crossing Plc. As of November 2010, Severn River Crossing Plc was owned 35% John Laing, British developer infrastructure operator 35% Vinci, French concessions and construction company 15% Bank of America, American multinational banking and financial services corporation 15% Barclays Capital, British multinational investment bank[29] The company's 2011 annual report showed the same companies still owned, through subsidiary companies, all the issued ordinary share capital of the Plc.[30] Ownership of the crossing and the original Severn Bridge will return to the UK government when the project's required revenue, as defined in the Concession Agreement with the Secretary of State for Transport, has been collected.[30] In 2010, the concession was expected to end in 2017. In 2012, changes were made to the agreement to reflect the effect of changes in VAT and Corporation Tax and the costs of installing credit card handling systems. The net effect was to increase the required revenue from £995.83 million to £1,028.91 million in 1989 prices[29][32] and extending the contract to 2018. It was later announced that these changes and future unspecified repairs were likely to mean that repayment would continue until the early 2020s and that its users should not expect tolls to reduce even after repayment has been completed.

If the govwrment of the day had stumped up the cash this money would be coming into public coffers for years to come. Same with the railways. The result is always the same, the general public get screwed over time and again

I agree with you on this. All infrastructure projects should be paid for by the tax payers and all profits- going back into building schools - hospitals etc, but no British government has the British people's interests at heart. [Post edited 1 Jan 2016 14:33]

I would nt mind paying if it came back to Wales...but it does nt over ONE BILLION pounds a year shared out amongst consortiums...we should have built this second crossing with help from the EU could have been a whole lot of money coming in as a result...

You don't have to pay to come into the country, you pay to use the bridge. You can go around or swim for free.
