Donald Trump 13:40 - Jan 27 with 43316 viewsLoyal

Beginning to gain momentum, regardless of people's feelings on him.

Some people are saying that he will never be President.

One name Ronald Reagan. The Americans love all this, and would vote for it to happen.
That I am sure.

My view is he won't live long enough for this to materialise.

Considering Trump and Sanders won last night that leaves the apple cart well and truly upturned and leaves the political establishment of both parties well and truly pissed off. As for Cruz he is getting more and more of a slime ball everyday.

Claisey, funnily the most sane and sensible one is of all people,Jeb Bush and there is more chance of Sam Allerdyce tap dancing naked on the Moon than him winning the nomination from the GOP.

It's a fascinating race so far. There's no stand out sensible option on the GOP side just different shades of mental. And Sanders is giving Hilary a scare.

Indeed.

It's a strange one with Hilary - I would, naturally, love to see a woman president, but she would not be the person I would choose if I could do so. I certainly go along with the US (female) students they were interviewing the other day who said that being female was not enough to force a vote above all else. She is a very bright, exceptionally well educated woman, who would transparently be better than anything on the republican side, but I am not a huge fan.

The only good thing about Cruz is, as a possible candidate, the right may fill their pants.

Cruz scares me more than Trump. I can't take Trump in any way seriously but Cruz has the look, demeanour and rhetoric of a zealot. I really do shudder. As Snork had said, Bush MKIII would be preferable to either of them but that ain't gonna happen. Not that I'd be likely to vote for any Republican anyway even if I had a vote. Thankfully I don't.

Vote Sanders, vote often.

Hilary has a shed load of baggage I.e Bengahzi, Top Secret documents left on her private server that may or not have tapped into by the Russians and of course there is also Bill lurking in the background. Bernie Sanders is a likable guy,but not President material in a million years. As for the GOP the like able candidates I.e Carson and Bush stand no chance of winning. That means being left with the two Giant Egos Trump and Cruz and a very inexperienced Marco Rubio. Carly Fiorena has just dropped out so there goes another option.

Very surprised Colonel Sanders, as a self-proclaimed socialist, is doing so well. You need to go to the states and mention being a socialist to really appreciate how dirty a word it is considered over there.

It used to be that way in the USA, but not so much any more.

Millennials weren't alive and don't remember the Soviet Socialist Republic and the damage they did to Eastern Europe over their 45 years of totalitarian power. They don't really understand what socialism is.

I'd suggest millennials may have a more accurate picture of what socialism is than older Americans, who seem to think it means the Soviet Union, Stalin, totalitarianism etc.

LOL, I do realize my opinions on socialism (that it's basically the same thing as communism) wouldn't be too popular in most of Europe.

And the sad bit, there's this whole campaign initiative and people in her running group who are telling women they should be ashamed of themselves for not voting for her. as though her gender is the reason people should be voting for her. I don't think its hillary herself just people close to her saying this rhetoric. I wonder if alarm bells are sounding?

Question though... I wonder if I'm the only US citizen here, who isn't voting republican. Granted I'm not a member of either party.

What do you think Sanders has in mind?

Europe, where many countries have been very successful under democratic socialist governments?

Or gulags, North Korea and the NKVD knocking on the door in the middle of the night?

Obviously he wouldn't be given the power to implement the latter, even if the USA loses it's mind (and soul) and elects our first socialist president.

But the reversal of the free enterprise system this country was built on would be destructive enough on its own.

Fair enough.

Do you think it's natural for the super rich to keep getting wealthier and wealthier whilst the middle classes shrink? And the poor grow by the day?

As is happening in America and in the many other countries of the world where an unregulated free enterprise system is followed?

She would be a nightmare president for peace in the Middle East. Here she is having a good laugh on tv about the assassination of Gadaffi...Basically,we turned an advanced country like Libya into wasteland, killed the leader then walked away and let ISIS take over the place..now Europe is flooded with boat people refugees from there.

Well done Hilary...

Of course not, but you'd have to give me evidence that is happening, because fiscal liberals have been arguing that with me as long as I've been alive.

Capitalism certainly needs to be tweaked from time to time to keep it fair. American History itself is a testament to that. But pure socialism will never be the answer as far as I'm concerned. And I know that sounds like a stereotypical way for a bassackwardsshitkicken Texan to think, but I've always tried to stay open minded on politics.

Frankly, I hate everyone that has any chance of winning this thing. Trump is an arrogant nutcase. Cruz is a socially far right extremist douchebag. Hillary is an unethical crook. As a human being, Sanders is the only likable one, and he's a pure Marxist socialist. And all 4 lack the most important trait it takes to be a successful, meaningful President.

In the last 50 years, we've had 2 great Presidents here in the USA: Lyndon Baines Johnson on the Left and Ronald Reagan on the Right. Both shared the same secret to success: schmoozing the congressmen/women who are supposed to hate you, because they happen to be in the other political party.

This is crass of me to say, but the best thing since Abe Lincoln that happened to African Americans was when Lee Harvey Oswald blew JFK's brains out. Because, while JFK certainly had their best interests in mind, Republicans didn't like him, and they REALLY hated his brother.

In comes LBJ, a man who knew how to get on the phone and make deals. He talked to them in a thick Texas drawl, and even used the "n" word in a practical way to disarm them and trick them into voting for the Civil Rights Act. That never happens if stodgy yankee Kennedy lives and is re-elected in 1964. At least not before the 70's, at least.

Fast forward to the 1980's and Reagan is doing the same sort of thing with Democrats in order to get some major pieces of legislation passed in order to jump-start a flailing economy. Reagan's best buddy throughout his presidency was House Speaker Tip O'Neil from Massachusetts, his ideological opposite. Those two got drunk together often and saved America in the 80's.

And yes, haters, Ronald Reagan won the Cold War. I've been to Poland and he is practically a god there just for having the balls to call the totalitarian Soviet Union "the Evil Empire." Liberals will argue that Reagan's "Trickle Down Economics" policy ultimately did at least as much harm as good (as Republicans do about LBJ's Great Society), but nobody can deny that they were effective presidents (even though LBJ's legacy was destroyed by Vietnam).

Nobody we currently have running for president comes within a goddamn mile of potentially being an effective president. They ALL suck. Except maybe Jeb Bush or Ben Carson, and neither stand a chance at this point.

Your loss.

Ordinary Joes in European socialist countries (not inc UK - too americanised) have a far better quality of life than their equivalent Americans.

World class health care, free further education, great public transport, better housing etc.

Yet a lot of Americans think that Europe is some sort of third world shithole. Easy to control an ignorant and ill-informed populace.

This opinion that Reagan or America won the Cold War gets on my goat. The Cold War ended when the people in Eastern Europe were pissed off with oppression and daily shortages, it gained momentum plus you had a leader in Gorbachev who wasn't a hard nosed Communist, but a realist who realized that the status quo in the Warsaw Pact countries had run its natural course. But back to the subject, basically you have three men in the GOP, I wouldn't trust to run a lemonade stand let alone run the most powerful country on the Planet.
