Kittens and carpets... 18:26 - May 4 with 797 viewsblueytheblue

Just a word of advice for anyone with kittens - be careful with carpets and also divan bottoms.

One of my young sons have been ripping the side and bottom of a divan part - hiding food remains there. The problem was that the bottom of those can contain plastic fibres - as can carpets.

Our lovely lickle kitty Benson was vomitting on Saturday - nothing was coming out other than liquid, with a foamy texture.

I took him to the vets ASAP - he'd swallowed a LOT of those fibres. Vet spotted some stuck under his tongue - tried removing but there were others so he required surgery to remove from his intestines. Part of the intestines was so inflammed and enlarged that delaying even a matter of hours could have been fatal.

He was returned home after recovering - hid under our bed for a while. After he emerged, there were two pools of blood in our bedroom. it seemed some intestinal damage had occurred causing problems - he had further surgery today to remove a 3cm infected bit of intestine along with a very small part of his pancreas which had been affected by the instestine.

In short...

Be very careful with kittens. They like chewing string type things which aren't good for them.
Never delay taking to the vets even if it's the out of hours vet and you think you're worrying over nothing.
Get insurance - it's needed.
If you see loose fibres around, then remove / secure them ASAP.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Thanks, much appreciated.

The problem with cats is they can hide pain fairly well - other than that vomitting we'd never have known and he'd be dead. Same with the blood last night, no cry, nothing.

Hopefully this second surgery will help, have been told there will be no long term damage.

Great survivors are cats bluey, some good advice there. Animals can't speak for themselves so don't hesitate to get advice from vets.
Fingers crossed for your little mog.

After the second surgery, Benson was under observation at the out of hours vets.

At 7am this morning he had a seizure, black gunk came out and he sadly died.

Very sorry to hear that - we lost our cat after surgery last year - still feel sad about it.

Oh no mate, that's awful. Really sorry as I've had cats and know just how attached you can get to them. Hope the family are ok.
