Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Indeed, ran a good campaign and a thoroughly deserved win for Leanne.

Interesting set of results...

Another false dawn for plaid. No real progress for them and depressingly Labour have carte blanche again to do spend as much of the Welsh budget on Cardiff city centre.

Key thing for Plaid is taking the Rhondda, which hopefully may mean, with hard work that we (Plaid) can make in roads into other areas of the valleys, Neath etc.

You are absolutely right though about Labour, I could cry. More massive investment for Cardiff.

Every time they get elected they will ramp up the inequality in Welsh investment (and I'm not banging a swansea v cardiff drum...there are many areas of wales totally abandoned beyond the M4 corridor). They will feel increasingly bulletproof and invincible.

It will be the same with the EU if we vote to stay in. Sometimes it's best not to have a vote as it strengthens and entrenches further a poor position by taking away any credible threat.

(I'm not saying we should vote to come out of the EU here by the way. Just illustrating the dangers of giving full legitimacy by a simple majority.)

Yeh it's poor, but better than last time.

General election last year + Welsh Assembly election + EU referendum this year + general trend of lower turnouts since world war 2 = the situation we have now

They've had success in the Rhonda before, can't remember if it was taking control of the council or for parliament . Swansea's people are voting for a party that has started ruining the city now have the mandate to finish the job

Well done Leanne, it could have been a great night for Plaid but they just missed out on so many seats yet again, which has been a recurring theme for years, one day perhaps they will win a raft of seats by small margins.

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

Stayed in Chester this week due to work. Noticed on the way up from the Brecons to Llandridnodd that nearly all the farm borders on the left of the roads had the Tory signs and on the right had LibDem signs. Think I only saw one of Plaid and no support for Labour. On a side note the Little Chef in Builth does a cracking breakfast.

Plaid have a dilemma which is why they are treading water whilst the SNP march on.

SNP have destroyed Scottish labour by making them redundant. The SNP are a left of centre party concentrating on looking after Scotland separate from a right wing England.

Plaid should be able to do the same to Welsh Labour which in the main is hardly left wing but they fail each time with new dawn after new dawn that leads nowhere.

Why? Their traditional support is the Welsh speaking areas and they are tied into the Welsh language. Their problem is convincing the electorate in the rest of Wales that a vote for plaid won't leave non Welsh speakers as second class citizens. They need to be more inclusive and being wedded to the Welsh language alienates them from large parts of the electorate.

They are so deeply wedded to the Welsh language that they can't put it into the background and their grass root support won't let them do that anyway.

Without the Welsh language issue holding them back I think that they could replace Welsh labour in much the same way that the SNP replaced Scottish labour.

And there lies their dilemma. How to be more inclusive and widen their appeal to a greater range of voters without alienating their grass root support.

The Henry Cooper of Welsh politics, floundering on the canvas after a great start and lots of promise. Still every one loves a tryer eh ? What Plaid are really doing is taking away from the real opposition the real votes to oust the Tory's completely. And then people wonder why the Torys win a few things in Wales. And indeed why this UKIP thing won't go away.

It would be fantastic to have what Scotland have but you have to face facts. Wales has a unity with the British Union, with people willing to stand alongside Engalnd. It's the way it is mate, and the good people of Wales prove it time and time again.

Or.... Labour reinvented itself in wales as Welsh Labour and via welsh speakers Rhodri and Carwyn rather stole Plaids show. So actually its the 'welshness' at very heart of welsh labour that has saved them from the fate of the now almost dead Labour party in Scotland. Welsh people always reject the Conservative and Unionist party and always will. Greed and selfishness are values that do not play well in Cymru. My own gripe with Welsh Labour relates to the city state they gave created.

A very nice woman, used to regularly drink/eat in my local, The Galed, in Ystrad Rhondda. An amazing result in the traditional heartland of Labour support. She doesn't give a shite about football, she's a typical Rhondda Rugby girl. Her partner supports his nearest professional football league team, the way it should be.

Funnily enough I've just posted in the Perfect Punk thread about it, I also can't really afford it. My oldest son[30] has just been selected to play for the Welsh Amateur League team in a tournament in San Marino next month, so me and my other son are going out there to watch him in that, so sadly The Euros are off now as well. I think I've made the right choice though! Playing against Greece, San Marino and one other country, 3 games in 7 days, staying in Rimini, can't wait.

The SNP's current leader is left of centre, its core members are not and have never been.

People love to describe the SNP as the "socialist option". It just isn't true (look at their attitude toward raising taxes after being given the power to do so).

They are nationalists, just like Plaid. And, just like Plaid, they are populists who recently adopted some socialist rhetoric to become more electable. Both parties actual commitment to a socialist agenda will last as long as Sturgeon and Wood stay as leaders.

Devolved governments are a great way to devolve blame. Each devolved government is given s bloc grant to oversee its various duties (which are not as extensive as some on here care to admit), and the fact is that Wales and Scotland are areas of high need. But, the budgets allocated (particularly in Wales) do not reflect this level of need and so our recovery is taking longer. Then you have the nationalist parties in Scotland and Wales coining in and constantly bashing the Labour-ran devolved governments and, hey presto, you have elected a nationalist party whose sole purpose is to see an independent Wales and Scotland. I'd love someone to give me examples of how Scotland is miraculously so much better now the SNP have been in control for a few parliaments.

If you don't believe me that the SNP are just populists, just remember that in the last general election, it was leaked that Nicola Sturgeon told the French ambassador that she wanted the Tories to win the election (presumably so that she could spend the next five years whipping up hatred for Westminster and Scotland's union with Great Britain, and force another referendum).

Yes they are national socialists. Has that been tried before?

I visit Scotland quite regularly and it seems to me to be completely dying on its arse, but the snp are in the fortunate position to be able to blame everything on the Tories.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
