The second option is the way I think Guidolin would play it. May disappoint some who want to see us play with flying wingers, but I think a team set up like that would be great to watch and would get goals. Participants if Ayew and Paloschi have licence to interchange with each other and make runs off Bony and Siggy.

There is nothing secret about that. Pretty much since we started our upward curve under Martinez (arguably before that with the likes of Trundle and Robbo) we have played a system that doesn't require players to be great individuals, but requires them to suit our way of playing. The team is greater than the sum of its parts which makes players look better than they are. They move away and get exposed. It's happened to almost every one of them. Joe Allen and Bem Davies haven't set their teams alight but have held their own. Before that, I'd say Sam Ricketts was the last one to leave us and kick on. | | | |
