If he doesn't put in transfer request and we sell him we'd probably have to pay his signing on fee and a 'loyalty' bonus. Football is beyond reality. It is thoroughly disgusting.

That's basically what i said Mon. I think Tom though maybe under the wrong impression regarding the full signing on fee being paid whatever the circumstances surrounding any future sale. Of course, if he's right and you look at the possible situation surrounding Ayew, then we are in the sh1t should he also have a release clause of £15m! His signing on fee was reported to be £6m over 4 years, so the balance of that would have to paid from the £15m! Not a lot left is there?

Does anyone know anyone in the club they can contact and tell them that they are out of their god damn minds if they let him go for that small of an amount?

Per Premier League rules you actually cannot pay a signing on fee upfront in one go. You pay it over the length of the agreed contract and then if the player is sold before that, the outstanding balance becomes immediately due. That's the rule.

Clubs get round that by "loaning" players the equivalent of their signing on fee upfront when they join and then deducting loan repayments from their wages which is offset against their signing on fee payments in their wages to balance to zero.

In the event of sale both elements (outstanding loan and outstanding signing on fee) cancel but the player has still received the fee.

We haven't done this with Ayew (or at least it doesn't seem that we have) as the accounts don't reflect that treatment (they would show a debtor for the amount not 'earned' whereas they actually show a creditor both within and more than 1 year for the contracted signing fees).
