Since Huw and the boys bought the club many years ago, Swansea have had the same core running through it.
Luckily, at the time, we had a young, keen to impress and talented group of players (Monk, Tate, Britts, Ash, Angel) who have been good enough to climb with the club.
This has no doubt saved us from having to shell out big throughout the team for many years. Now that these players are nearing the end of their careers (in the case of Ash, Angel and Leon), we find ourselves in a position of being just like every other club.
However, I think that Huw and co were / are still in that mind set of how we used to do business....on the cheap, looking for a bargain to compliment the above-mentioned core.
Now whilst we should still look for a bargain when we can, the club needs to realise that to remain in the PL, we need to buy quality and if required, pay big (like Stoke are doing).
Whilst the small club made good past was a great experience and credit should go to everyone involved for that, football has changed and Swansea City need to change with it..

If you can fill the unforgiving minute.
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Fair enough. It's now obvious that joke isn't funny any more.
Sorry Dailew, my point was that we've been lucky enough to have the same strong core for so long but as these players leave or get older, we need to replace with more quality which undoubtedly costs more money than we're used to spending.
I think that the way the club needs to approach future transfers needs to evolve with the ridiculously inflated transfer market.
I'm not panicking (just yet) but would have linked at least one quality striker in by now.

We've been linked with plenty of quality strikers. That's not our problem. The problem is signing them ...
