Hell of a player.

Jenkins and the Americans will look to make a tasty profit on him in January!

He did remind me of John Stones too with his calmness when bringing the ball out with his feet. Both from the same academy.

When was John Stones at Brentford?

Not a Jihadists hope in the North East Corner. He'll be ours until he makes his England debut which will be 3 or 4 years away.

He did okay. Watford didn't offer much besides a few breaks.

Made a couple of mistakes that could have been punished but no more than Amat and Fede tend to over 90 minutes.

Sorry, he is correct according to 442.
Mawson aeriel wins 3 from 6
VDH aeriel wins 10 from 11
The major difference being where VDH made his jumps, only 2 were in the Penalty Area, most of the others were intercepting those long balls that came down on his side closer to the half way line and that is where Mawson was not quite as good.

Best PL debut for us by a Championship player I can think of. Very impressed.

He was very good, but Hoorn really impressed me he's a great find he was immense today imo, he reminds me of myself in my Welsh league days

Some overreactions here. Had a very solid debut and certainly should start next week. He wasn't the new Beckenbauer though. It's not as if Watford had us under the cosh. This board reacted very simlarly to Matt Grimes 5 minute cameo debut.

Good debut but the usual comical overreaction on here. Let's see how he does against a better, quicker opposition before he's the new Baresi.

Most importantly they play well together, as do VDH & Amat, unlike Fede & Amat.
So for me it is any 2 from those 3, VDH, Mawson & Amat.

Maybe we should poach a few members of staff.

I can't imagine many of our defenders will be encouraged to play that way under world renowned academy coaches at Swansea City such as Alan Tate.

Open your eyes ,he struggled to win balls in the air all game and if I really wanted to be picky he tried appealing for offside once when he got caught out and it was nowere near offside ,neat on the ball but no world beater just yet

Could I say that he is no John Stones and the reason why Barnsley sold him to us and not Manchester United or Arsenal. He's a very good prospect at our level but I've watched John Stones all season and he is world class.Alfie Mawson is at the moment domestic class with the ability to become an international footballer should he sacrifice outside influencs and dedicate his life to being a professional footballer

He did NOT "try to win balls in the air all game", he won 3 from 6, ie 50%.
VDH had a lot more balls come to his side in the air and was a lot more succcessful.

Credit to both players. But they were far from excellent.

They were shambolic at times. They were caught out of position and made some very basic errors. They were nowhere near solid.
Mawson was poor in the air at times. He made a mistake trying to play off side but got lucky with that and also went to ground on a player failing to win the ball as they counter attacked. That alone screamed of inexperience and lack of discipline.

There were many positives however. The biggest for them was the clean sheet.

I'd wager that an Amat / Mawson partnership would be strongest.

These boys are young and raw. They will improve very quickly given match time.

Congrats to both.

My son asked me if we'd win today. I honestly thought that Deeney would have torn Laurel & Hardy a new one today.

I thought Mawson and the Dutch lad played him out of the game.

Stones isn't world class.

He's a terrific footballer who needs to become consistent at doing the basics
