Any computer experts on here?, my phone was updating for some reason it looks as if the updating has cleared emails out of my inbox and I can't find trace them I had a couple of important emails and I can't find them, all I can think of is that my phone updating has caused the disappearance. |  |

Its a Samsung S5 something similar happened the other week as well, was in Costa's and used their WIFI and checked my Emails and I lost connection for some reason and when I got back on the Emails were gone, all my trash mail was gone, the emails on my all mail and social filters are still there, but everything else gone.
I had a securitywatch online form to fill out for a job offer I've had, but I need to go through a few security checks and now that email has gone, panic stations. | |

Tried everything I can think of Murph, I'll phone the company in morning and ask if they can resend email. I wouldn't think it'll be a problem, I hope not anyway. | |

Murph is right that an IMAP is a feed from a server, and POP3 is the protcal for downloading the email to the client side.
Now if you were
a) pop3
b) your email client was being upgraded ala the apple system
c) your server is set to delete from server once a mail has been downloaded (which is normall default for webservers to save space).
then probably when it was updating it replaced your inbox data file with a new one zeroing out your existing. As I believe apple operates on the idea all their users are using Imap. I've had this happen to some people at work.
However all might not be lost.
If you are are backing up on icloud the emails should theoretically be backed up there.
Also, depending on your provider the emails will be moved to the trash bin on the server side, so you may be able to go to the email account from the web, and see what you can retrieve.
Honestly, Imap is just easier to deal with due to these things. Pop3 is really only the better option if you run a tight ship for security.
So not sure this helps... and sans a back up you probably are SOL. So if anything maybe its a lesson for data integrity? *shrugs* |  |
