Syndicalism itself, shorn of that hyphenated prefix, embodies a wealth of ideas and possibilities.

You're probably way ahead of me on the possibilities and drawbacks, but I've found the basic ideas quite compelling and suited to transition from late stage capitalism from both individual and societal perspectives. In fact many people in very rural and remote areas have always kind of lived that way. [Post edited 27 Oct 2016 20:45]

Those ideas were beginning to gain real traction in this neck of the woods a century ago, Neil. I've sometimes wondered what may have happened if not for the First War? So many of its most forceful advocates perished in Flanders whereas the entire Labour leadership spent the war picking apples and sowing mailbags as 'Conchies.' The great battle of ideas that was fated never to take place.

That's a difficult one, Neil. I've got quite a bit here, most of which has been out of print for years. I suppose the logical place to start would be with Sorel's Reflections. It was first published around 1910, if I remember correctly. You'll have to allow for the passage of time and the forcefulness with which he makes his case (it shocked a lot at the time and still retains the power to jolt now.) If you pick up a copy you may well find much of what he says contradictory, his thinking often muddled. Lenin thought that Sorel's fatal flaw, when I first read it I found that the books major attraction as it invites you to deconstruct his arguments and spurs you to think for yourself.

Leanne didn't avoid though did she, that's the point. Saw the keys to power within her grasp, and lapped up the opportunity. You know it, and Labour sure as hell will remind voters of it, as they should.

Thanks. My suspicion over its limitations (and my understanding thereof) are that; much like trying to understand capitalistic financing and economics using examples of household budgeting - trying to view Syndicalistic labour exchange and cooperative structures using examples of how it could work in rural economies, really won't cut it in large, post industrial cities. Hence the popularity of Schumacher's 'Small is beautiful' amongst those of a Syndicalist bent in the '70s. That's still in print too, Neil.

Wiki reading "A Guide for the Perplexed" - some very interesting concepts, especially around materialism and the way scientific method has grown up being as limiting as it is informative in the way that "proof" could be different from "truth". I find that kind of highly academic philosophy only so useful mind... Back to the Syndicalists, I see Sam Mainwaring was a Welsh speaker from Neath (huge Swansea Villa fan). He seemed a bit too internationalist for Leanne's Nationalist Socialists though. [Post edited 28 Oct 2016 6:23]

Well it's not a pearl necklace. Frankly, can't see why anyone would want to see themselves as anything by giving themselves a label. I noted Ken loach was on last night ,champion of the lower classes . First question was the great news on Sunderland s Nissan plant. Good news ? Well no, this quickly morphed into the usual dross Let's face it, any good news is just what corbyn and the lefties want. Clearly, protest politics
