Eileen and Trefor Beasley were both Plaid councillors from the village, she was a schoolteacher they went to court 16 times apparently over many years and as a result apparently bailiffs took their possessions, they demanded their council tax bills in Welsh, but they eventually beat the might of the British State, she was known as the "mother of direct action" and the "Rosa Parks of Wales''.
They put a 'blue plaque' on their house, was it for civil disobedience asks Brit Nats ? no say the Welsh it was for equal rights and equality ?

Dennis Coslett was a commander in the Free Wales Army, he was put on trial with 9 others in Swansea and refused to speak English in a 53 day long hearing, he apparently did not think Plaid were strong or forceful enough just like a lot of hardliners, he was said to have got a gold watch off the residents of Aberfan for work he did in trying to get them recompensed.

As a self-described "for real socialist" why do you keep banging the drum for cultural nationalism? It's a serious question as it flies in the face of everything that you, as a 'socialist', would profess to believe.

Reading your posts sometimes is like reading conference notes on bipolarism . There have been occasions on here where you have lauded Annie Powell and Saunders Lewis in the same post when in real life they regarded one another with completely undisguised loathing, each despising what the other stood for.

You can't ride two horses at the same time, Tramp, you'll hurt your knackers.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Its tempting to say the Brit Nats don't know what they are playing with, but there again perhaps they do, perhaps they know the history of the place and the Beasley's and Coslett etc being fairly recent history.

Leanne Wood leader of Plaid has called for calm in the local papers, Swansea's Evening post and Llanelli's Star, Huw Edwards says ''The antipathy, venom and skulduggery of recent months have taken even an old hack like me by surprise. It makes the recent Trump-Clinton election look genteel in comparison''.

Its time for Labour to expel multiple members of its party down there for campaigning against Labour Welsh Government policy [and working with UKIP in the process] and its time for the Brit Nats to accept the decision of the council who are backing Welsh Government policy.

I would pay good money for a televised debate between trampie and Lohengrin, with a pissed up humpty as the moderator angrily calling everyone c**ts.

It's a nice idea but I wouldn't be the best choice.

I don't really know enough about the whole welsh nationalism/language thing.

What I do know. Cottages, dams, coronations, silly blokes in berets and shades and the absolute fact that welsh language road signs make people drive into llynoedd, tai and popty pings. Mainly stupid c*nts.

You'll have to choose someone else I'm afraid.

Well I found it an interesting read, both on the attitudes to this specific issue and his wider comments on the quality of public debate and lack of respect.

I'm still amazed at the divide between Welsh-speaking and non-Welsh speaking in this country. As in incomer, the Welsh language seems to offer much: it's part of the Welsh identity that underpins not only communities but also the economy in terms of tourist interest, etc. Bilingual kids are apparently better performers and pick up other languages more easily. It adds variety in this increasingly globalised world.

I struggle to see any genuine reasons why people push back against it. So what if the road signs are bilingual? So what if public services have to use both Welsh and English on their literature? The cost is insignificant compared to the benefits.

If people chose not to engage, that's fine and their choice. But to be openly hostile about your own national language? That's bizarre.

I agree with you on the whole but I can see some reasons for resentment;

- Some jobs/funding for/from the Welsh government are only accessible if you speak Welsh...I'm not talking about the jobs where Welsh is a necessity, I mean things like the likelihood of your film being eligible for grants from BBC Wales depending on Welsh language content. (I haven't explained this point very well but for more clarity look here; http://www.govyou.co.uk/end-discrimination-against-the-english-language-in-wales

- The heavy subsidies S4C receives to make shows that only appeal to a small share of the population;
https://www.theguardian.com/media/2010/apr/15/s4c-english-language
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/singer-meic-stevens-hits-out-211391

- Welsh GCSE being compulsory. Are Welsh kids from non-Welsh speaking backgrounds who know they do not wish to learn Welsh having their options curtailed?
Does it make sense to make Welsh compulsory at GCSE as opposed to say, a choice of language which would help our citizens in the economy of the future (e.g. Mandarin, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Japanese etc.).
It's not popular; http://www.itv.com/news/wales/2015-07-10/exclusive-poll-64-oppose-compulsory-wel

I guess what I am saying is that while promoting Welsh the Welsh government shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the majority of us don't speak it and should make every effort not to leave the larger English speaking portion of the population feeling less Welsh/Welsh-lite and excluded in any way.

....but overall you are right. The growing bi-lingual share of the population in Wales is a good thing and I, personally, have no antipathy towards the Welsh language at all.

The first link you put up Kerouac seems to be related to person that is apparently a well known Serbian immigrant who seemingly sees himself as English and apparently is very very anti Welsh, see the 3rd comment down and then the first reply to that comment, the Brit Nats in Llangennech are said to have links to the guy.

100 per cent correct.

I think its 800 years of divide and conquer playing out.

That said the bi-lingual arguement has been won.

What a load of old crap. Welsh is the second language in this country and educating children exclusively in Welsh serves no purpose but to limit their opportunities in future. Born simply out of nationalism and anti-English sentiment and if the truth be told the school will attract far more funding for making the decision to teach through the medium of Welsh only. Feathering of nests is what this is all about, nothing else.
