Great news. He's been outstanding under Clement.

Form is temporary...

Fede's taken a lot of stick on here (some justified some not) but this is great news.
Fede + Alfie under PC + CM....looking good 😊

Spot on.If we can sign another experienced centre back in the summer to fully support FF and Alfie then our central defence should be a solid unit.

He's done well under Clement and is a good replacement for when Amat and Van der Hoorn hopefully leave in the summer. It was obvious the club was looking for a new CB in January, and I don't think the summer will be any different.

Amat is more than good enough - I would be disappointed to see him leave

Disagree

He s been appalling and has only recently improved to become solid enough to partner MAWSON, a rookie who is arguably ahead of him.

We could get much better

I agree with Perch. I was a big fan of Amat and wanted to see him have a long run of matches to show what he can do, but he's failed. Fernandez and Mawson will now be our regular pairing with another defender arriving in the summer so I don't see that he has any future with us. He seems to be a decent guy and we'll all wish him well but it's probably time for him to move on while he's still young.

Under PC he has looked like a PL defender and played some solid games. Please with this.

Masson is one we need to tie down long term not Fernandez

Ff still lacks real bottle while Alfie has it in spades

No need for us to have offered Dyer nor now Fernadez new deals

I think the Dyer deal was to do with running down of contract

Form is temporary. His inability to pass the ball more than 30 yards without a 60/40 chance of giving it away appears to be permanent.

He's done very well under Clement and for that he deserves credit. I think we could do better.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

A four year contract is a bit nonsense ! he can sit back now like the other long termers

An experienced, ball-playing centre-back for £8m (or £5m as seems to be the norm now)?

He's got a lot more options closer in front of him with the way we're set up now. He'll do for me - at least until we sort our other, more pressing priorities out.

Maybe. The "one cultured, one rugged" approach has worked for us in the past and perhaps the club have decided that other areas are more worthy of upgrading.

Be interesting to see what happens with Amat or VdH. Both could look markedly better now they're not managed by Bobbley.

I'd definitely keep Amat, VdH may yet be worth persevering with.

I'd happily trust PC and CM's judgement on this.

Fernandez was probably the worst of the 4 under Bradley and Guidolin so I don't know why people just assume neither VdH or Amat would improve under Clement.

Agree. He should replace Amat or Van der Hoorn when they go. He'll be a solid back up. We should always be looking to improve and invest in the starting XI. If recent times haven't woken the board up to that, then nothing will.

We’ve already got Mawson* tied down on a 4 year contract.

* Assuming it’s Mawson you were on about, not some new signing.
