Apparently some idiots believed Iraq had developed a delivery system comparable to your average minuteman silo or average deep ocean nuclear submarine.....On its way in 45mins........ A BBC Newsnight reporter said he was scared to travel in Iraq ministry provided aviation because sanction-related spare part shortage made the helicopters rattle and sound more like a dodgy lawnmower. But hey!.... some thought Iraq could build hi-tech delivery systems!!!!!!!

Yes, some were against it at the time. If the evidence presented hadn't been "sexed up", had been correct then hindsight would have shown them to be wrong.
I personally didn't buy some of the claims about Hussein. That's just a personal view. May, IDS et al were presented with the intelligence dossiers, correct? They would be making evidence base decisions as a result.
EDIT: The mistake made was Bush not finishing the job in 91 and removing Hussein when there was a far, far stronger rationale to do so.

Well done Bluey on seeing through the pro war arguments at the time, many of us did, including some now prominent UK politicians seeking high office. You, me and them showed foresight and wisdom and deserve to be recognised as such.
its a shame the UK politicians in positions of influence at the time, failed to show any of these characteristics. indeed the worst of them were quite rabid in pressing Blair to make the case for war.

F#cking common sense free w#nkers some politicians truly were! The best in terms of range and accuracy Iraq could offer during Iraq-war-1 was the SCUD. But hey IDS thought they'd built a minuteman standard range rocket and silo system in the midst of sanctions that left zero room for manoeuvre to actually build capable delivery systems.
And many w#nkers Tory and Labour fell for it, common sense of a gnat, and many others also knew it was impossible but party political loyalties, hidden agenda's, promises of promotion, seats in House of Lords gave Blair his carte blanche.

Theresa certainly believed it, hook, line and sinker.
She was advocating military action, before any dodgy dossiers.
Any politician that believed the Iraq threat is a cloud-cuckoo-land case not fit for parliament and the ones (and there were undoubtedly many) that knew it was utter cr#p and still voted for war are beneath contempt scum.
Just look at despicable prize self serving w#nker LORD Anderson of Swansea who defended Blair, the war, the lies and pro-voting filth to the absolute hilt. There the complete and utter scumbag sits in the House Of Lords with Baron Reid of Cardowan, Baron Prescott, of Kingston upon Hull, Baron Hain, of Neath etc, etc, etc.

Yes they did. But they were a tiny group without mass support.
Then we used 9/11 as an excuse to invade a different country that had nothing to do with 9/11, caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and completely destabilized the Middle East.
A Muslim adopting the slogan "God is great"? Whatever next ?????
If you are saying Saddam Hussein created Islamic fundamentalism I've got news for you. It's been around a bit longer than that. He "got religion" to try to coax the other Arab nations to support and defend Iraq from the imminent and inevitable U.S. land grab.
Isis came out of the ashes of Al Qaeda in Iraq and were a result of the shia government being installed in Iraq . It's all sectarian. Isis wiping out all the Shia in Iraq would be a satisfactory result for Isis. They couldn't so they decided to form their own country or Calif slightly to the west.

Hundreds of shoppers and workers couldn't get back to their cars yesterday. Can't help thinking a bit of an over reaction by the authorities i.e. If it happened last week on one would have taken any notice of an abandoned car. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-40047995

No, we made assessments without viewing of any facts or evidence. What we had were gut feelings, let's recognise that rather than fellating ourselves over our greatness.
If we'd been viewed the intelligence dossiers, can we really hand on heart claim we'd have had the same view?

so you didn't trust the judgment of IDS or May then, do you trust them now?
May and IDS were calling for pre emptive strikes and military action in 2002, before the production of any dossiers.
My view was based on the absence of a UN resolution to go to war. rather than gut feelings, although my gut feeling were against it as well.
Gut feelings should not really be used as an argument either for or against war.
"After the Manchester massacre… yes, and after Nice and Paris, Mosul and Abu Ghraib and 7/7 and the Haditha massacre — remember those 28 civilians, including children, killed by US Marines, four more than Manchester but no minute’s silence for them? And of course 9/11…
Counterbalancing cruelty is no response, of course. Just a reminder. As long as we bomb the Middle East instead of seeking justice there, we too will be attacked. But what we must concentrate upon, according to the monstrous Trump, is terror, terror, terror, terror, terror. And fear. And security. Which we will not have while we are promoting death in the Muslim world and selling weapons to its dictators. Believe in “terror” and Isis wins. Believe in justice and Isis is defeated."

No profit in justice though eh.

You want to put every Islamic person in a cell? Yeah that's really going to solve it.

Not a cell..Just deport them, would be a lot easier.. but a cell for an easy option! Or some Island nearby, where they can fester their stupid ideology elsewhere.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you've got no mates who are Moslem. I've met a few through work and admit I was a bit guarded at first (we fear what we don't understand).
Based on my experience I expect you'd actually find Moslems alright. Okay, the praying five times daily is unusual compared to us, they're not going to get tanked up in the pub, and you're going to find yourself eating with them in halal restaurants rather than MacDonalds but I'm sure you have the wit to see past those differences.
