Wasn't this aircraft carrier ordered in 2009? Who was in power then?

Initially ordered in 2007. Construction started in 2009.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

It's posturing, pure and simple. Putin is already 'jealous' apparently. It allows us to back up our allies and look like we're at the top table to get things back in return, etc, etc.

Nice bit of kit mind. And the state sponsorship of our shipyards is welcome. Seems there are genuine concerns it will suck up the armed forces budget though. And you have to wonder what's more relevant to the types of challenges we face today - select troops on the ground with the equipment they need to make their job safer, or this f*ck off great big penis extension.

Labour's defence review of 1998 identified the need for the carriers, ordered by Labour in 2009. Sounds like bribe to obtain votes in Scotland makes the £1 billion in NI seem small fry.

I think you've mixed me up with Pikey thingammy again.

All I said was that the plans for the aircraft carrier were made a long time ago (when Labour were in power) so we can hardly blame the Tories for the cost.

Also, are you sure it cost 6bn? According to wikipedia it's 3.1bn.

We order two at £3 billion each that makes £6 billion.

With respect, the Prime Minister isn't the one who orders planes. It might have been while Cameron was PM, but he wasn't the one looking through Jane's and saying I'll have n of those please.

What's the point of being PM if you don't get to spend billions on warfare hardware? That's got to be the best part of the job
