General election time for new policy vote Labour 12:52 - Apr 21 with 5056 viewsburty

The Tories have doubled their funding to rack renting landlords to the tune of £10 Billion a year in wasted housing benefit payments since 2010. They've borrowed more money than any Labour Government ever! Debt to GDP up a third, National Debt up 50%. Where's all our money going because the roads around me are falling to bits and I can't get a GP appointment without a two-week wait? It's all being pissed into Tory vanity projects and private-sector pockets, whilst the poor & public sector get screwed, declawed, de-skilled and turned into mere units of consumption. The government are liars and spivs.

To ALL Planet Swans readers! Quote burty "I can't get a GP appointment without a two-week wait?".

Well I've got some extremely worrying news! It's gonna get SIGNIFICANTLY worse! A new pioneering system (soon to be nationwide?) is now in place in Gorseinon where you are screened and of which you can be refused a G.P appointment....Not guaranteed anymore i.e. a bit like when I used to have an NHS dentist.

Its called a triage system! Hells f#cking bells............Hey!

First you phone the receptionist, you then have to describe to her your personal condition (however embarrassing) then you have to stay-in to wait for a doctor to phone back and he does an assessment/examination by means of telecom service. If you're deemed ill enough? You win an appointment!

Surgery near us it's near impossible to get an appointment within 2 weeks.

Why?

As the receptionist mentioned, they get swamped with a large number of patients not requiring any treatment whatsoever with incredibly minor ailments. Not to mention the number that booked appointments then failed to attend.

It's incredibly sensible to pre-screen appointments to get rid of time wasters.

Lost dentists a long time ago.

Easier to blame governments that accept the fact dentists deliberately went private to make more money for themselves.

NHS consultants? Wait 6 months or go private and see same consultant within two weeks.

Nurses? Eh agency nurses enjoy the extra money.

Tory propaganda machine it is but it did at least have the decency to report something that does not exactly make the Tories look good. And bearing in mind we have a devolved Labour WAG it doesn't exactly make them look good either i.e. the triage system is being pioneered in real-time in Gorseinon as I type this.

Coming to your local G.P practice folks! BTW I lost my NHS dentist (now pay privately) under Labour Westminster and WAG.

You are extremely lucky....appreciate it...... and do not take it for (I assume you do appreciate ) granted. I have seen so many things in my locality go: a lot of well paid long term jobs, a 24hr fully manned/operational police station, a local causality, a bus service or two to certain areas lost along with services reduced for some with one bus every 2 hrs, my NHS dentist gone, a guaranteed G.P appointment gone etc etc etc.

Since 1979?.... all down hill stuff in my part of the world.

Well my late father was screened, had terminal cancer, was refused an appointment courtesy of NHS direct and ended up collapsing (blood loss, low platelet count) in Singleton Hospital car park because a doctor call out was refused.

Recently a young girl in Bonymaen area died because of telephonic screening.

And BTW my sister has a specialised role in Swansea Morriston and her opinion? People will fill up A+E instead and are doing so! Incredibly sensible telephonic screening my f#cking arse!

When the tories took charge the figure was 150,000 people a year missing the 4 hour waiting time with nhs hospitals, it now stands at 1.5million. Anyone would think they were trying to privatise the NHS and give out the lucrative contracts to all of their wealthy chums. Pretty much what they done with our Royal Mail. Scumbags

As I've always said, there's plenty of mistakes made within NHS. I've never regarded NHS Direct as particularly good.

Obviously, your father is a fairly specialised case, an utter disgrace imo because a doctor call out could and should have been arranged.

The reality is, the NHS is overstretched - money won't solve that as the concept doesn't scale. Money won't prevent people rushing to GP surgeries due to having the sniffles, being convinced they need antibiotics when they've got nothing more than a minor cold. Money won't prevent people rushing to A&E because they are so precious they believe a small cut on the finger means they need life saving attention.

Telephone screening should definitely be massively improved, there's no question about it but how else do you weed out the timewasters - particular with regards to GP appointments? A&E can at least triage - problem is, doesn't appear to be routine to point out to people how much time and resources they are wasting with nothing issues.

Liar, liar, as usual, 'Honest' Bluey. Do you actually believe this stuff or are you some kind of mindless propaganda bot?

The fact is that healthcare costs have been rising by +7% per annum in real terms for maybe around 10 years, due primarily to aging populations and the rising cost of treatments (equipments and drugs).

In this context successive governments have portrayed their RPI funding commitment as a triumph of magnanimous and benevolent rule. However, the spread over the rise in like for like costs compounded for such an extended period of time is precisely why the NHS is falling apart today.

We've had that in neath for a while because we're always ahead of the curve in this metropolitan metropolis, to be honest it's not that bad although it is a pain having to wait around for a call back. I've only used it once when I picked up a nasty ear infection from my swimming that wouldn't go away but the surgery was empty whereas in the past it was always rammed full of people who just had a bit of a cold.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

The GP (Cwmfelin surgery) wouldn't give my Mrs an appointment to see the doc to renew her sick paper. They made her rock up with everyone else at 8am, be given an appointment time and either hang around or go home and come back again. As it happens her appointment was only just over an hour later so by the time she got home she'd have had to leave to go straight back. She's a high infection risk and tires easily as she's currently having chemo so she couldn't sit around in the waiting room with all the germs flying round. Despite explaining all this to the receptionist she was met with a "take it or leave it" attitude so she ended up sitting in the car for an hour. The doctor herself was appalled when she saw the wife and has promised a scheduled appointment next time.

GP receptionists are one of the curses of the 21st century NHS.

We have that telephone shit here. Absolutely useless if you have any kind of job really. I was refered to the nurse practitioner (fair enough) but a doctor had to ring me to do that, and then the NP referred me back to the doctor, so I had to go in again the next day.

Lucky I'm generally a man of leisure these days. This of course is before they build 300,000,000 new houses round here with no new Schools, Hospitals or Surgeries or Roads, to WAG (or whatever the shithole is called now) plans.

(Hope Mrs Clase doesn't have to go through any of that stuff again.)
