Appearances ... Angel
at 17:53 29 Sep 2018

Someone has probably posted this in a thread already but I was interested in how the maths worked out.

Angel Rangel made 374 senior appearance for us in his career. Todays Swansea starting lineup between them have made approximately 290, or 180 if you discount Naughton. I wonder how often this odd stat has occurred where a former player outscores the entire team he used to play for?

Good result today, I'm enjoying this season!

I am posting this link because it is well written and summarises just one aspect of the long running saga at Blackpool. Anyone with about 10 minutes spare time to read the article should do so if they have an interest in the management and administration of professional football. I just thought I'd throw it out there...

The Run-In
at 09:44 5 Mar 2018

I'm not normally one to do this sort of thing, but the fixture list and the table as it stands have thrown out some interesting permutations when I looked last night.

Although nothing is a given obviously, I reckon West Brom have had it, they are too far adrift unless a miracle happens. Stoke have a really tricky run in with Man City, Everton, Arsenal and Spurs their next games. If those results go to form (Arsenal ??? :-) ) then they too will be losing touch with the pack. That leaves one space to fill in the drop zone. We are not safe by any means and have some tough fixtures ourselves.

The upcoming Huddersfield and West Brom journeys are critical and we need to find some away form from somewhere. Our next home game may not be until mid April unless the Southampton game is slotted in somewhere beforehand.

On the bright side Man City could have wrapped up the title as early as 7th April, the same time we travel to West Brom. When we travel to Manchester on Sunday 22nd it will be two days before the first leg of the Champions League Semis and one would give City an excellent chance of being there.

Far too many Ifs and Buts really, but is is proving to be a fascinating season.

Inflatables

I'm a bit off the wall tonight after that. Fantastic. A quick internet search shows that inflatable lobsters are available but I can't find sardines yet. Some crowd tribute to Carlos if we waved them at him by the hundred... just a thought....

South Wales' favourite Prem referee...

Just noticed Graham Scott resurfaced at Bournemouth yesterday afternoon after a month in a Gulag. Had a quiet game according to The Observer where he doesn't rate a mention despite brandishing yellow another 6 times. An interesting career to follow here.

The Express are saying Eder took the train to Lille today with a view to a medical and possible loan. Anyone doing a headcount at training today?

Robert Earnshaw

Worth noting that this great servant of Welsh football has retired. And I for one would send him a massive thank you, regardless of any other coloured shirt he may have worn in his long and distinguished career. A true Pro with a record that will almost certainly never be beaten...

"Earnshaw is the only player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League, FA Cup, Championship, League One, League Two, League Cup and an international." c. BBC

The week coming up...
at 16:30 29 Jan 2016

Some interesting fixture combinations coming up on Saturday - Wednesday. For the teams around us, there are some pretty tough asks. I'm not counting any chickens obviously, but it seems a good time to take the opportunity to put some sea room between us, our rivals, and the bottom three. Fingers crossed.

Saturday (FA Cup)
West Brom .v. Peterborough
Portsmouth .v. Bournemouth

Tuesday (Premier League)
West Brom .v. Swansea
Palace .v. Bournemouth
Norwich .v. Spurs
Sunderland .v. Man City

Wednesday
Everton .v. Newcastle

A quiet retirement ...
at 10:37 24 Jan 2016

While we're waiting for the main course at lunchtime, worth noting a small corner of this morning's paper.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 41. A regular thorn in England's side since his début in 1994. He retires on 11,867 test runs with 30 centuries at an amazing average of 51.37. He is currently the seventh highest test run scorer in history, just 80 odd runs behind next best, friend and contemporary Brian Lara. A quiet thoughtful stubborn unorthodox wall of a batsmen I spent many hours watching and admiring. And now he makes a quiet exit. Thanks Shiv .

Right, is it 1.30 yet ?

Goalscorer ?
at 14:52 22 Dec 2015

Here's a purely hypothetical one. Should we be interested in Charlie Austin if as rumours have it, he is available? Proven goalscorer, right age, Prem experience. It is, after all, a goalscorer we need and he's scored 10 compared to the 15 goals by our entire team. Just a thought.
