Saint At Charlton The Verdict
Saint At Charlton The Verdict

No one should be too surprised that this game was a draw, it usually is !

Fact of the matter is Saints threw away what should have been a well earned three points by not capitalising on superior possession and chances and getting caught napping at the end.

Again you have to call into question the managers use of substitutes, losing Lallana before the break was a simple choice with N'Guessan being the natural replacement, simiarly Guly for Chamberlain, but perhaps what contrbuted most to us not winning the game was once again taking off Barnard.

Barnard was again the hardest worker in the team and it was his running that kept Charlton pushed back and gave us an outlet, but taking him off with 11 minutes to go was sheer folly and allowed Charlton more time to build from the back, sometimes Nigel Adkins has to accept that Lambert is not contributing and take him off.

Too many times we looked predictable, the side needs shaking up a little, the loss of Lallana was a blow but Oxo going was no great loss, he rarely beat his man or put anything dangerous in.

Of course this result isnt the end of the world, in fact in some respects its right on track for our two points a game target, but make no bones this wasa glorious chance to steal a march on our rivals and we didnt take it, sadly it was of our own making.

Finally a big round of applause for over 3,000 Saints fans who made the journey and made a lot of noise to get behind the team.

Didn't go but reiterate what you've said, massive applause for those that went up there and drowned out the home fans. It was brilliant listening to them on player.

Let's not forget N'Guessan's winning "goal" in stoppage time that was wrongly flagged offside. Hopefully it won't cost us.

Agree that swapping Barnard for Forte was pointless - Barnard was probably taken off for his own protection but Frazer Richardson should have come on, with Guly going up front. We needed more than two midfielders who could defend at that point.

Your constant slagging off of Lambert is getting very tiresome. His hold-up play and the way he brought others in was magnificent, especially considering the battering he gets from the opposition. He also set up several chances for others, including the superb through pass for N'Guessan for the wrongly disallowed goal. No doubbt he'd love a bit of that kind of service for himself.

I agree the midfield is looking threadbare and we do not seem to be able to close off games. Well done to the fans they sounded terrific and it is a pity that the players did not react. the goal we conceded was so poor to be believed. It is difficult to see that we can catch Brighton now with 10 games left - they will have to implode big time. The question is will we hit 2nd with these poor performance levels.

Spot on ! The only thing about Barney was the charlon website stated that Barney was booked the same minute as he was subbed,I didn't spot this but if correct good move to get him off as durso is a kxxb jockey and we can't afford to loose him as he has been immense , as much as it was disappointing to draw after being in front it's still a good point ie 7 from last 3 away is great form ,just win our home games and every other away and it's championship hear we come. Also kelvin is playing well now and that has got to be a plus ! Fingers crossed on Lallana and oxo cube .COYFOOKINREDS

Truth be told you could have written the script for last night. Saints looking for a win at one of their least successful grounds, against a team with no form and an ex-Saint upfront.

It does feel like 2 points lost, but on the positive side it's 1 more than PB got on Monday night. We must win our game in hand now because we can't expect any more favours from the other top sides. Until then it's going to be a nervy race.

Hopefully Lallana and Oxo aren't too injured. If they are we really need to get on that loan market. If we're not going to use players in our current squad then we need to look elsewhere and fast.

It is kinda lucky we dont play Plymouth now this weekend, in fact no game for about 10/11 days - gives time for OXO and Lallana to get fit again. Without those 2, I would be worried...
