Plenty Of Chances, Now For The End Result

Plenty Of Chances, Now For The End Result

10 goals in 10 league games is probably the statistic that will worry Swans fans the most at this moment in time. Whilst nothing is going in against us it means we will win many matches but quite why are we not finding the net as often as we would all like to see us do?

Eleven sides in the division have scored more goals than we have this season, whilst only 8 have scored less, Kidderminster being the lowest with just four goals all season. Has to be some form of a worry although I'll take one goal a game if we are only conceding every other game on average.

However, a more in depth look at the stats and you start to wonder why the goals aren't flowing for us this season. It would be more of a concern if the chances weren't there but we have had in those ten league games a total of 71 shots on target, a figure better only by Yeovil (76) and Southend (73) whilst Grimsby have matched our total with 71. Off target we have had 41 shots, giving us a ratio of 62% of shots on target, the highest in the division by some way (Shrewsbury are next with 59%)

However, with a total shot tally for the season to date of 113, it takes us on average 11.3 shots to record each goal that we score. Compare this to the teams around us in the table - Yeovil (6.95), Scunthorpe (6.38), Wycombe (7.54) and Mansfield (7.47) and you have some concerning stats I guess?

Indeed, only 1 in 7 of our shots on target are converted, whilst the teams mentioned above convert 1 in 4 at worst meaning that they are more likely to keep scoring than we are unless that ratio improves.

I guess though that while the stats look as if they could be a concern so long as we keep winning games and achieving points then there is nothing really to worry about but it does go to prove that, despite having a poor scoring record, our football is far from boring this season and chances are being created. And when you are creating chances then it should follow that goals will soon come.

Won't they?
