Once again its any excuse to have a go at Lowe

When Claus lundekvam's testimonial committee announced that the ex Saint was buying Saints a new pitch for £100k to play his testimonial on, it was bound to bring forth a few comments, they therefore picked their words carefully, however the Lowe haters have jumped on this on message boards, proving the point that most of them are not looking at facts.

The first fact is that the committee have made it quite clear in their statement that the reason they have had to do this is because Celtic could only make this date and not one later and that after the Bon Jovi gig this would not have given the current pitch time to be re seeded and for the grass to take, spokesman Matt le Tissier made it plain, Claus wanted Celtic and no one else, he doesnt see this game as one to make money, but one to say goodbye to the fans, that being the case he was prepared to take whatever action was necxessary.

However this did not placate the lowe bashers, within minutes of it being announced on the Daily Echo website they were on Lowe's case, why didnt he pay for it etc etc, no thought was given to the fact that both the Bon Jovi gig and the testimonial were announced long before Lowe arrived back at the club and  that the previous regime had not offered to pay for it either.

So the Anti Lowe brigade get on Lowe's case and complain that he should be spending £100k for Claus, funnily enough it comes on a day that sees the Poortvliet compensation decided, money that the ALB have been complaining about Saints allegedly spending.

The huge irony of the situation that seems to be lost on a great many posters is why Claus's testimonial committee has chosen to announce this fact now, as the ALB wax lyrical about Lowe's shabby treatment of a great and loyal club servant and how he should roll up his pitch after the game and take it home with him, but they fail to realise that the reason for this press release is that the ticket sales for the game are appalling, many might be willing to eulogise Lundekvam on the internet, but ask them to put their hands in their pockets for him and the silence is deafening, it wasnt so quiet a few weeks back when many gave the opinion that professional footballers are overpaid and no longer need that testimonial pay day, back then it was Claus who was being maligned, as several reasons were given as to why people werent supporting him, all of a sudden he has gone from a highly paid footballer who has earned millions to someone who we should be buying a pitch for, hypocrisy and short selective memories abound to suit here.

In happier and more affluent times Saints might well have paid the cost, but this is definately not a happy and affluent period and sadly the club ccant afford it.

Im sure i will be accused of sticking up for Lowe again, but the fact is he shouldnt even be in the equation, all of these details were tied up long before his return, to be blunt its nothing to do with him or the football club for that matter.

For the record i have bought a ticket for the game, I feel that Claus earned a chance to say a final goodbye to the fans, he deserves it, what he doesnt deserve is to be used as a pawn in some supporters fight against Lowe, this should be a special time for Claus, he should have a full house, meaning that he wont lose out financially and the night should not be ruined for him by protests.
