Swans Handed Tie At Sheffield United

Premiership Scalp Chance For Swans

Kenny Jackett wanted a chance against a Premiership club and he got his wish as the Swans were drawn out with an away tie to Sheffield United when the draw was made today.

jackett had also hoped for a first FA Cup tie for the Liberty Stadium but that was not to be as the Swans were handed their eighth successive FA Cup tie on the road

The meeting will be the first between the two sides since May 1989 when Sheffield United triumphed 5-1 at Brammall Lane and you have to go back to March 1939 for the Swans last away win against the Blades. In the period since that win they have visited 11 times, losing 6 and drawing 5 but conceding a whopping 37 goals in the process, scoring just 11.

On the plus side the Swans did meet Sheffield United on their run to the semi finals in 1964 - drawing 1-1 in Sheffield before triumphing 4-0 at the Vetch.

A full list of results between the two sides can be found here

The tie is scheduled to be played on January 6th but may have to be moved as the Blade's Sheffield rivals Wednesday were also handed a home draw in the third round. Swansea's home league game against Gillingham though scheduled for that weekend will definitely be moved.

The full draw reads as follows

Blackpool v Aldershot/Basingstoke Barnet v Colchester Sheff Utd v Swansea Reading v Burnley Portsmouth v Wigan Mansfield/Doncaster v Bolton West Ham v Brighton Leicester v Fulham Derby v Wrexham Wolves v Oldham Bury/Chester v Ipswich Man Utd v Aston Villa Sheff Wed v Man City Tamworth v Norwich Salisbury/Nottm For v Charlton Cardiff v Tottenham Preston v Sunderland Liverpool v Arsenal Bristol Rovers/Bournemouth v Hereford Watford v Stockport Crystal Palace v Swindon Bristol City v Coventry Peterborough v Plymouth QPR v Luton Southend v Barnsley West Brom v Leeds Hull v Middlesbrough Birmingham v Newcastle Torquay/Leyton Orient v Southampton Everton v Blackburn Chelsea v Macclesfield Stoke v Bradford/Millwall
