Martinez Ready To Land Duffy

Martinez has been taking a well deserved break the past week but he now returns to the club ready to put the finishing touches to a squad that he hopes could be preparing for Championship football in twelve months time.

And Duffy - who spent the end of last season on loan at Swansea - is a name very much at the forefront of his mind as he looks to add to his forward line that already includes Lee Trundle, Pawel Abbott and hopefully (work permit permitting) Jason Scotland.

"We are still in negotiations with Darryl's advisers and Hull City," Martinez told the Western Mail

"Darryl fits the mould of a Swansea City player very well; he's hard-working, ambitious and determined.

"Hopefully we'll hear something in the middle of next week."

Kristian O'Leary is another one who should be aware of his future by the end of the week. The long serving midfielder was given extra time to consider the two offers in front of him - a one year deal at the Liberty Stadium or a three year deal at Cheltenham. It is also understood that should Kris sign on at Whaddon Road that he will be given the club captaincy to boot although his heart remains very much at Swansea.

Kris is due to report back with the rest of the squad this week and will make a decision on whether to cut his time with the club to take the security that a three year contract can bring him.

Martinez has been talking up club captain Garry Monk after he signed on the dotted line last week and he told the Wales on Sunday "Garry is a winner and is our proud captain," said Martinez. "He has the leadership, aggression and defensive qualities that can win Swansea City promotion.

"Garry missed all of last season with a knee injury and his desire and commitment to succeed is what we want at Swansea, so I was elated when he agreed to stay.

"Garry is like a new signing for us."

It promises to be a busy week at the Liberty as Martinez tracks a goalkeeper and a winger and wants to add more strength to his squad ahead of the opening league game on August 11.
