Trundle To Become A Wurzel?

Trundle To Become A Wurzel?

Why not visit our sponsors lounge

It probably does pain me to say this but I can only see one outcome. I believe that Trunds will be a Bristol City player by the weekend and thus ending one of the most entertaining Swansea careers that I can remember. I watched Trundle's debut at Port Talbot back in the Summer of 2003 and I guess it's somewhat ironic that four years later his career in South Wales could have ended with his absence from a pre season fixture against the very same club.

If last night's rumours were anything to be believed Trundle has signed for somewhere between £600k with bolt ons to £1.25m in hard cash. Some say he has agreed personal terms, others claim that he has rejected them and Swansea City are prepared to offer him a huge hike in wages.

But what everyone seems to be accepting is that Trunds is talking to the Wurzels and that there is every chance that their leading scorer is about to depart these shores.

I don't think that anybody can doubt that if Trundle does leave it will leave a void in our squad that will be very difficult to fill. His showboating won't be filled even if we manage to get someone to match his goals tally which exceeds 20 goals for all four seasons of his Swansea career. It will swell the Liberty Stadium coffers by up to a seven figure sum which will be welcomed on board by Roberto but it will also prove to be a downer, no matter how temporary, amongst a huge wave of optimism that has built up over the course of the summer months.

There will as well be the overreaction that will undoubtedly follow the loss of such a good player but most of all there will be that realisation that Trundle will never score a goal in front of his adoring Liberty faithful again. Well, not in the White shirt anyway.

Trundle's Swansea career has been one of many highs and some lows. I will never forget his goal at the Millennium Stadium against Carlisle but sadly more will never forget the T-Shirt he wore at the end of the game. The audacious chip against Yeovil will live long in the memory and I still struggle to believe that the shoulder roll against Huddersfield actually happened such was the cheek of it all. Nutmegging Peter Beagrie and then laughing with him about it was another chapter in several books worth of Trundle magic.

If this does turn out to be the end then it's only fair to stand up and say thank you Lee for the memories and good luck in your future career - you won't be forgotten in a hurry, not by anyone who watched you down here.

And deep down I suspect that most Swansea fans this morning wish that the rumours are bollocks.
