Swansea And Cardiff City Chairmen On Cup Draw
Saturday, 30th Aug 2008 17:19

The Chairman of Both Swansea City and Cardiff City were looking ahead to the first Welsh derby after the Carling Cup draw

The two clubs will lock horns at the Liberty Stadium in three weeks time in the third round of the competition after they were drawn against one another in the live draw earlier today.

It will be the first of at least three meetings this season with league matches scheduled for November and April and now this one on top of it.

The game is likely to be played on the Tuesday night and could well feature on television although the matches scheduled for that are yet to be announced.

Ticket details will be announced next week but a sell out is on the cards although it is not yet known what the Cardiff allocation will be.

And both Chairmen were looking forward to the tie when they spoke to BBC Sport Wales with Peter Risdale saying "It's one of those inevitable draws and some rehearsal for 30 November

"It'll make many mouths water and I don't think there will be many spare tickets!

"Even leaving aside the third round of the Cup it'll be about bragging rights, but we've just got to get on with it and win.

"I've heard a lot about Swansea v Cardiff and been involved in a few emotional derbies myself, like Leeds v Manchester United.

"Our job will be to focus on the football and take the emotion out of it.

"But the first thing is to speak to Swansea and to the police, to set the exact date, sort out Cardiff's ticket allocation, and - most importantly - to ensure a safe environment for everyone."

Whilst opposite number Huw Jenkins said "Football has moved on and both of these clubs have moved on from some of the things that have gone on in the past

"We're at the Liberty Stadium and Cardiff are looking forward to moving to their new ground, there are a lot more women and children coming to games.

"We can be positive, it's a fantastic draw and we look forward to a great night for Welsh football."
