Penant: We Have To Be Wary Of Swansea

Jermaine Penant will make his Portsmouth debut this afternoon, already wary of his Championship opponents

Penant is almost certain to be in the starting line up against the Swans this afternoon but he is wary of the threat that they pose to his Portsmouth team mates.

The Swans will be looking to dump the holders out of the tournament and that is a threat that the Pompey lads have been made all too aware of ahead of the game.

Penant said “If I start then hopefully this game will see me and Crouchy rekindle the form we had at Liverpool.

“I’m sure the fans will be looking forward to seeing us together again.

“Hopefully, I will provide the ammunition for Crouchy. He likes the ball in the box and I like to whip in crosses, so hopefully we can get a good relationship going.

“Any team would like to have a player like him in the middle and, especially as a winger, it makes your job a lot easier.”

While hoping to impress, Pennant made it clear he wasn’t expecting an easy debut, adding: “No matter who you play in the FA Cup, it’s always a difficult game.

“We have watched tapes of Swansea and Tony Adams told us they are a good passing team.

“So we have to be wary because they have got some good players in there.

“It’s going to be a tough game. But I want to start my Portsmouth career with a win and we have got a good chance to do that at home to Swansea.”
