Swansea have completed the emergency loan signing of Burnley defender David Edgar

The 22 year old centre half goes straight into this evening's squad to face Blackpool at Bloomfield Road and provides Paulo Sousa with a timely defensive boost.

Albert Serran, Garry Monk and Fede Bessone are alll struggling with injury while Alan Tate is having to play through the pain barrier.

Edgar, formerly of Newcastle United, joined Burnley on a free transfer in the summer with the Premiership new boys paying £300k in compensation to the Magpies, as he was under the age of 24.

He made 13 appearances for Newcastle last season, scoring once and has played 6 times for Burnley so far this campaign.

The deal is expected to last until the end of the season, although Burnley have the option to recall Edgar after 28 days.

"I think it's a great chance for David to get some games because he's obviously frustrated," said Burnley boss Brian Laws.

"He wants to be in the team just as much as anybody else.

"I can't fit him in at this moment in time David is very much in our thoughts and I think getting him first-team games with Swansea, who are playing really good football and in a position where they are winning consistently, is a fantastic opportunity."
