Monk Suggests There's More In The Tank
Saturday, 29th Mar 2014 18:06

Garry Monk was never really going to complain after watching his side secure a 3-0 win over Norwich at the Liberty Stadium but he was certainly suggesting that the win came with some in reserve when he spoke to the press after the game.

Monk's side eased their relegation worries with a comfortable win thanks to two goals from Jonathan de Guzman and one from Wayne Routledge. It followed up nicely a great point at the Emirates in midweek and move the Swans into the relative comfort of 13th place in the Premier League - seven points ahead of the bottom three.

But Monk suggested after the game that there was more in his side as he compared the performance to some others in recent weeks and stated that his side didn't play as well as they can do and that he had told them that at the final whistle.

Spirited performances against the likes of Liverpool, Everton and Napoli in recent weeks may have left the Swans empty handed in terms of positive results but they were clearly performances that impressed the boss more compared to the one this afternoon against Norwich.

And I guess you can see where he is coming from as it certainly wasn't us at the very top of our game but it was more than enough to see off a Norwich side which - on the evidence of today's performance probably has more to worry about in the next few weeks than we do.

Monk said: "I think we played better than we did today in previous weeks and not come away with anything.

"It was good when we were playing well and on top that we got the goals our play deserved. We won it comfortably in the end.

"We had spells but we weren't as good as previous games and I told the players that at the end.

"But in the spells we were playing well, we were very good. We can always get better and today is a good marker for the players."

The Swans 2-0 lead at half time looked under threat immediately the second half started and bad memories of the last two home games started to come flooding back as Norwich pushed on to try and get themselves back into the game.

He added: "The first ten or fifteen minutes after the break we were sloppy and if you don't start well the anxiety comes into the crowd and you feel it with the players who can then sometimes get a little bit tired.

"We settled and got back to it and made some good breaks though and that was important for the players. The third goal helped us a lot."

The Swans next fixture is against Hull next Saturday another team that they leapfrogged with today's result
