New Deals On The Horizon?

It is always interesting to see just how close we can play our cards to our chest on transfers and always good to know when some rumours are being quelled very early on after paper talk.

And yesterday seemed to say that moves for Adam Matthews, Kyle Naughton and Geoff Cameron are not going to happen although I think it would naïve to say that there was nothing in the rumours in the first place.

What was confirmed yesterday (albeit without the use of quotes) was that the Swans would not be moving for these three players not that there was no interest to start with. The hunt though does seem to be on for a defender and with Garry Monk saying last week that he wanted two or three new additions and the Chairman confirming that there was 'one or two things' to be done it does look certain that we will see more players at least before the window closes if not before next week's season opener at Old Trafford.

I never take statements about numbers of signings literally but it does appear that we have not yet concluded our summer dealings although it is interesting to know when some links can be quashed quite quickly.

There were no reports dismissing a move for Napoli's Federico Fernandez and with reports last night suggesting we have made a £7m move this one looks as if it could have some legs as we prepare to replace Chico Flores. Fernandez is - in my view - a better player than Chico so that would be an upgrade in squad depth which should I guess in theory be the aim of every departure to look stronger when you replace that player overall.

Ramon Azeez was another one that the Chairman distanced the club from after links earlier in the week so I guess we can rule out him pulling on the white shirt next season as well.

A central defender will become a must if Chico leaves and that is not for me a reflection on either Kyle Bartley or Jordi Amat but more a need to have a secure partner for Williams and Fernandez would without a doubt be first choice if we can land that signing

We are possibly a central midfielder short - Jonathan De Guzman - and maybe one more player and that could be us done beyond that. And that kind of thinking does not seem to be out of sync with the thinking of the club although whether they agree on the positions remain to be seen.
