England's Insular Choices...

I have to say that up to today I was never really convinced that Swansea players were overlooked for international selection by England but I think it is fair to say that when the likes of Fabien Delph and Danny Rose are good enough for a call up you wonder what our players have to do.

If you were Nathan Dyer or Wayne Routledge at this point in time then you would rightfully be annoyed at seeing players called up whilst you don't even seem to sit on the fringe but very much on the outside looking in. Add to that Jonjo Shelvey and Leon Britton who at this point in time maybe wouldn't have expected a call up for the upcoming game against Norway but certainly should have had call ups in the past given the nature of the players that represent England these days.

And Garry Monk's words this evening should make England fans wonder about their international manager "It would be nice to see if the England manager would come down and watch our players," said Monk

"I know he's never been here to the Liberty Stadium to watch them as England manager and he'd have to come and watch us first before he can pick anyone.

"But that's not my concern. It's very early in the season where we're at right now and probably too early to be talking about our players in that status."

England's loss will always be Swansea's gain but it does seem a travesty that the form of the players listed above in their time for Swansea in the top flight has not been rewarded by international recognition.

Our fear though should be that it could easily put people off wanting to come to the club if they feel they are going to be overlooked by an international manager which certainly seems to be the issue that Roy Hodgson has over anyone else when you remember that we have seen caps for many of our side for other countries but clearly playing for Swansea City is not good enough for an England manager.

After England's spectacular flop at the World Cup the pressure is on Hodgson and people should ask questions of him for overlooking players who are certainly good enough to play for England especially when you then consider that he doesn't even seem to be considering them as an option if he is not watching them. Of course he could be letting his staff do the watching on his behalf or maybe the English FA just cannot afford a fee to cross the Severn Bridge.

Either way it seems a poor show and I share a sadness that these players do not get the chance to show their skills on the international stage but that is England's call and their loss certainly.
