Swans Won't Be Disheartened

Garry Monk got it absolutely spot on when he addressed the press at the end of the Swans 4-2 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge by saying that his team would not be disheartened with the defeat despite seeing their perfect start to the season end.

And it is hard to argue with him after a game where the Swans gave more than a good account of themselves particularly in the first 20 minutes where they gave the title favourites more than one thing to think about and deserved their one goal advantage which could easily have been more.

Neil Taylor's cross deflected into his own net by John Terry was the only reward the Swans had for that opening spell and a Diego Costa hat trick was the biggest difference between the two sides at the end of the day as Chelsea themselves continued their own perfect start to the season.

Having been crowned manager of the month for August yesterday, Monk watched his side with just one change take all the early plaudits in the game and despite conceding four goals he has every reason to be proud of his team's continued form and can look forward with confidence to next week's visit of Southampton who are just behind us in the league.

"We won't be disheartened," insisted the Swans boss. "We played some very good stuff in the first half.

"We were disappointed to concede before half time, and maybe should have added one or two more goals because we had some good chances.

"In the second half, I think you could see the power and quality that Chelsea have, and we couldn't quite contain them.

"But the players gave what I asked of them. They were fully committed. We continued to try to play well, but we came up against a very good side.

"We're making vast improvements. Some of our play today was the best we've ever played against one of the big teams."
